Women's Basketball Preview: Texas State

ULM concludes the regular season in San Marcos tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Texas State.

TIP-OFF
• The ULM women's basketball team will play its last regular season game on Friday (March 1) at Texas State. The Warhawks and Bobcats are set to meet at 5 p.m. inside Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas.

• On Tuesday, ULM erased a five-point deficit at halftime and outscored Arkansas State 35-21 in the second half and rallied back for a 69-60 win in Jonesboro. The win marked the first time ULM women's basketball won in Jonesboro since 2011. With the win, the Warhawks matched the 2007-08 team's win total of 18 games.

Daisha Bradford scored 24 points to lead the Warhawks. Bradford knocked down five three-point buckets in Tuesday's game. It was the fifth time this season the senior has made five or more three-point buckets. Four Warhawks scored in double figures as Jakayla Johnson contributed 13 points, Katlyn Manuel had 12 and Brianna Harris scored 11. Sania Wells led ULM with eight rebounds and six assists. ULM outrebounded the Red Wolves 40-30 and poured in 32 points in the paint. The Warhawks forced 18 turnovers and pumped in 15 points off of A-State turnovers. The Warhawks shot 61.5% from the field in the final quarter and held Arkansas State to 30% shooting in the final 10 minutes.

• The Warhawks beat Texas State inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum back on January 13 in the first meeting between these two teams. Jakayla Johnson earned her third 20-point game in a ULM uniform and Katlyn Manu- el recorded her second double-double of the season. Johnson was two rebounds shy of a double-double and dished out seven assists to go along with one steal. Manuel came off the bench and delivered 18 points and 10 rebounds and added a pair of blocks. Lauren Gross extended her streak of hitting multiple three-point baskets to four games and drilled five shots from long distance for 15 points. Nunu Bradford accounted for seven of the Warhawks' 19 assists and registered nine points, six boards and one steal. Brianna Harris scored seven points and added eight boards and two steals, assists and blocks apiece.

FRIDAY'S GAME BASICS
ULM and Texas State will clash for the second time this season on Friday evening inside Strahan Arena in San Marcos at 5 p.m. ULM leads the all-time series, 34-29. The Warhawks snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Bobcats with a 73-63 win inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum back in January. Friday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The game also will air on KMLB 105.7 FM/540 AM and the TuneIn app on the Warhawk Radio Network from Learfield with Ben Milam on the play-by-play.

PREVIEWING TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats have lost five straight games after completing a two-game winning streak with victories over Coastal Carolina and Ohio back in early February. Texas State enters Friday's game with a 13-17 overall record and a 3-14 SBC mark.

Graduate student Ja'Niah Henson leads the conference and is second in the nation with a 93.5 percent free throw percentage. The guard from Baltimore, Md., is Texas State's leading scorer and has averaged 14.6 points per game. Timia Jefferson has posted a 10.8 points per game scoring average. Former Warhawk Gara Beth Self has made 23 starts for Texas State after transferring to San Marcos prior to the 2023-24 season. The guard from New Albany, Miss. was named the SBC Freshman of the Year in her first season on ULM.

The Bobcats are led by Zenarae Antoine, who was honored as the 2023 SBC Coach of the Year. Antoine has guided Texas State women's basketball for 13 seasons and earned her 200th career victory in the Bobcats' win at Ohio on Feb. 10.

UP NEXT
The Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament begins March 5 in Pensacola, Florida. The Warhawks will learn their seed for the tournament after league play concludes on Friday evening and seeds are confirmed by the SBC offices.
