Women's Basketball Preview: App State

ULM begins a four-game road trip on Wednesday evening.

TIP-OFF    
• The ULM women's basketball team starts a four-game road trip on Wednesday (Feb. 7) in Boone, N.C. at App State. The Warhawks and Mountaineers will battle at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT inside Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachain State University.

• The upstart ULM women's basketball team has recorded 15 wins so far this season, the most in program history since the 2010-11 season. The program won a total of 14 games in the previous three seasons. ULM's six-game conference winning streak was the longest in ULM history in 19 years. The Warhawks strung together the longest conference winning streak (six games) since the 2004-05 team, who won 11-straight conference games to conclude the regular season.

• The Warhawks concluded a four-game homestand last Saturday with their second matchup of the season versus the Ragin' Cajuns. ULM fell to the Cajuns, 73-52 inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Ragin' Cajuns held ULM to a season-low point total and field goal percentage in Saturday's game. The Warhawks shot 29.2% from the floor on a 14-for-48 shooting day. The Ragin' Cajuns shot 53.1% from the field and made nine 3-pointers. Jakayla Johnson finished with 17 points and went 13-for-14 at the free throw line. Johnson added a pair of rebounds and assists as well as a block. Daisha Bradford reached double figures for the 20th time this season and poured in 15 points to go along with eight boards, five assists and two steals. 

WEDNESDAY'S GAME BASICS
ULM and the Mountaineers will meet for the 13th time in history Wednesday evening at Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C. ULM is seeking its first win over App State, with the Mountaineers winning all 12 previous meetings.

Wednesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The game also will air on KMLB 105.7 FM/540 AM and the TuneIn app on the Warhawk Radio Network from Learfield with Ben Milam on the play-by-play.

PREVIEWING APP STATE
The Mountaineers ended a three-game losing streak last Saturday with an 80-70 victory at Coastal Carolina. App State enters Wednesday's game with an 11-11 overall record and a 5-6 conference mark. As a team, the Mountaineers post an average of 70.8 points per game (seventh in SBC) and allow 70.6 points per game (11th in SBC). App State averages 22.3 free throw attempts per game, which is second in the SBC and 19th in the country, but shoots 66.3% at the line, the third-lowest percentage in the conference.

Senior guard Faith Alston ranks fifth in the SBC with 18.5 points per game and has totaled the seventh-highest free throw attempts mark in the country with 141. Alston also leads App State in assists (99), steals (45) and 3-point baskets (32). Sophomore forward Rylan Moffitt paces the Mountaineers with an average of 8.2 rebounds per game, good for fourth in the league.

Angel Elderkin is in her 10th season at the helm of App State women's basketball. Before App State, she served as an assistant coach at LSU for the 2013-14 season. The East Providence, R.I. native was a four-year letter winner at the University of Southern Maine and led the Huskies to four NCAA Tournament berths as a guard.
