Bacon Tallies Four Hits, ULM Drops Series Finale at Troy

Troy won the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

TROY, Ala. -- Lourdes Bacon racked up a career-high four hits in a single game, but the ULM softball team (26-17, 9-6 Sun Belt) dropped the series finale to Troy (29-16, 9-6) with the Trojans winning 7-3 on Sunday (April 14) afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex in Troy, Ala.

The Warhawks jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after Lourdes Bacon led off the game with a double to left field. Layla Thompson drove in Bacon on a two-out RBI base hit up the middle for the game's first run. Victoria Abrams completed a scoreless bottom of the first inning in the circle for the Warhawks, with Elle Carter making a diving play at short for the first out of the inning. After a 1-2-3 second inning, Troy claimed the lead following a three-run second. With two runners on, Jillian Williams lifted a home run to left field to give Troy the lead. Bacon and Meagan Brown both singled in the top of the third, but Troy posted its second-consecutive scoreless inning. Troy's Kayden Dunn added two more runs to the Trojans' score with a 2-RBI double to center field and expanded Troy's lead to 5-1 after three innings.

The Trojans extended the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth after a D'Aun Riggs 2-RBI double to center field. With two outs in the fifth inning, Bacon poked her third hit of the afternoon with a base hit to left field. Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, and Gianni Hulett completed 2.1 scoreless frames out of the bullpen. Bacon racked up one more hit to finish the day 4-for-4 after an RBI knock to center field that scored Jacelyn Buck. Carys Platt drove in another run on a fielder's choice that scored Maddie Nichols to make the score 7-3. Troy secured the final out of the game and took the series with a 7-3 win in game three.

Bacon registered four hits in one game for the first time in her career, and finished with four out of seven of ULM's hits for the day. Meagan Brown, Thompson and Carter also tallied one hit apiece for the Warhawks. Abrams surrendered the loss and allowed five runs in two innings of work. Bristin Bordeau pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two runs, while Hulett fired 2.1 scoreless innings.

The ULM softball team returns to Monroe for a midweek matchup versus Grambling State on Wednesday (April 17) at 6 p.m.
