HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss claimed Friday's series opener over ULM, 14-3 in seven innings, at Pete Taylor Park.
ULM (17-20 overall, 5-11 Sun Belt Conference) was limited to two hits in the loss, with
Bryce Blaser and
Jayson Zmejkoski each hitting a double.
Colby Lunsford,
Kade Dupont and
Michelle Artzberger each picked up an RBI.
Southern Miss (23-14, 10-6) picked up 11 hits and took advantage of one walk, five hit batsmen, three wild pitches and three ULM errors. Davis Gillespie had two hits, including a 2-run home run. Gabe Broadus had two hits with three RBIs, while Billy Butler and Tucker Stockman each had a pair of hits with an RBI.
Golden Eagle starting pitcher Billy Oldham (5-1) threw a seven-inning complete game, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. ULM starting pitcher
Cam Barlow (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits with one walk and one strikeout in two innings.
Saturday's game has been moved up to an 11 a.m. first pitch due to potential weather later in the day in Hattiesburg.
