MONROE, La. -- The ULM softball team (28-20) bounced back on Tuesday (April 23) night with a run-rule win over Stephen F. Austin (15-34) at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.

The Warhawks dominated from the first pitch and Maddie Nichols set the tone with a pair of punchouts and a ground out. Lourdes Bacon singled to start the bottom of the first and Brooklin Lippert and Meagan Brown followed with walks. Maryssa Zenzen ripped a single that scored Bacon and Andie Edwards drove in Lippert to make it a 2-0 game. Carys Platt singled home Brown for the third-straight ULM RBI base hit. Kelsey Giddens capped off a four run first inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Edwards. Nichols fired another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second to keep it a 2-0 game. Zenzen doubled to left center and scored Brown in the bottom of the second and increased the lead to 5-0. The Lumberjacks recorded their first hit of the game in the third, but Nichols tossed her third scoreless frame. ULM scored for the third-straight inning with a pair of runs when Bacon doubled to score Platt and Lippert lined an RBI hit to score Kelsey Giddens to make a 7-0 lead.

The Lumberjacks loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Nichols struck out her fourth batter of the night to keep the shutout alive. Madelyn England pinch hit with a base hit in the fourth and moved to third base with two outs. Kassidy Giddens hit for her sister, Kelsey, and delivered an RBI knock to score England to make the score 8-0. After Elle Carter placed a bunt single, Bacon racked up her third hit of the night on an RBI hit that scored Giddens to put ULM up 9-0. Bristin Bordeau wrapped a bow on ULM's strong offensive performance with an RBI hit that scored Carter for the Warhawks' 10th run. Gianni Hulett completed the shutout with a scoreless fifth inning and the Warhawks collected a run-rule win.
