GAME NOTES

MONROE, La. - The ULM Warhawks make their first-ever trip to Bud Metheny Baseball Stadium to visit Old Dominion for a Sun Belt Conference series at 6 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. CDT Friday, 4 p.m. EDT/3 p.m. CDT Saturday and 10:30 a.m. EDT/9:30 a.m. CDT Sunday in Norfolk, Virginia.

Friday's game marks the fourth all-time meeting between ULM and ODU, with the Monarchs leading the series 3-0 after sweeping last year's series in Monroe. ODU won on Friday, March 17, 5-3 in 10 innings, before rolling to a 13-1 win on Saturday, March 18, and finished off the sweep 6-2 on Sunday, March 19.

ULM is 18-22 overall and 6-12 in the Sun Belt Conference entering Friday's game after Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Little Rock at Lou St. Amant Field. Easton Winfield and Shawn Dalton Weatherbee each hit solo home runs to account for ULM's offensive output, while four pitchers from the bullpen combined to throw seven innings, allowing one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. The Warhawks salvaged last Sunday's game from the series at Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles won 14-3 in seven innings last Friday and 13-3 in eight innings last Saturday before ULM bounced back last Sunday to close the series with a 5-1 win. USM used a trio of big innings to break open the games on Friday and Saturday, scoring 10 runs in the third inning Friday and six runs in the third and eight runs in the eighth on Saturday. The Warhawks limited Southern Miss' opportunities on Sunday, scattering 10 hits and allowing just one run. Daniel Gonzalez threw a career-best four shutout innings on the mound in the start, while Parker Seay, Aidan Haynes and Carson Orton combined to throw five innings out of the bullpen, allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks. ULM scored five runs across the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Bryce Blaser and Matt Abshire each had two hits and an RBI on Sunday. Sunday's game marked the first time ULM won in 2024 with fewer than six runs, fewer hits than the opponent and when trailing at the end of the sixth inning.

On Sunday, sixth-year senior pitcher Carson Orton set the ULM program record with his 84th career appearance on the mound, surpassing Jared Jennings and Caleb McConnell for the record. He recorded his second save of the season and 20th of his career in the appearance, moving him into a tie with Mark Wisniewski for the second most saves in program history.

ODU is 22-18 overall and 9-9 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Monarchs are coming off a 7-1 win over VCU on Tuesday night and won the final two games of the series last weekend at Marshall, 3-1 and 12-2, to take the series after a loss last Friday in Huntington, West Virginia, 4-2. ODU has been tough at home, going 18-9 at Bud Metheny Baseball Stadium, but the Monarchs are just 4-9 away from home.

All three games of the series will stream on ESPN+. Friday and Saturday's games will air on 105.7 FM/540 AM KMLB, KMLB.com and the TuneIn app, while Sunday's game will only stream on KMLB.com and the TuneIn app with Mike Hammett on the call.
