KICKOFF –
The ULM soccer team (3-0) will be playing at Brown Stadium for the second straight match in a three-game homestand, taking on former conference opponent Nicholls (0-1-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Monroe. The Warhawks are looking to continue their winning streak, as they beat the Grambling State Tigers 3-1 in Monroe on Thursday night.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT –
Nicholls is looking to break a streak of their own when they hit the road for Monroe on Sunday afternoon. The Colonels tied with Louisiana Tech 0-0 to open the season at home, then blanked in a 2-0 loss to Grambling State in Thibodaux. The Colonels are currently seventh in the Southland conference standings. Nicholls' Lauren Andre also claimed Southland Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER –
The Warhawks started the preseason strong, being selected third in the Sun Belt preseason coaches poll, receiving 138 votes. This is the highest ULM Soccer has been ranked in the SBC preseason poll since joining the conference in 2006. The Warhawks have also opened the season 3-0 for the third time in program history. The last time was in 2014, when ULM opened the season 4-0. The first time occurred in 2008.
LAST TIME OUT –
MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks defeated the Grambling State Tigers 3-1 on Thursday night to start the season 3-0.
Grambling's Cindy Norfles scored in the 18th minute to take the early lead. Senior midfielder Mara Grutkamp was able to score the equalizer in the match, making it 1-1. The assist came from Vanessa Praher. In the 29th minute, freshman Beth Strutton scored off a header, the Warhawks leading 2-1, assisted by Grutkamp.Â
In the 71st minute, Praher turned a Tiger foul into an opportunity, extending the Warhawk lead 3-1. The goal was assisted by Grutkamp again, notching her second of the game and the season.Â
ULM edged Grambling State in shots, 10-7 in the match. Praher, Grutkamp and Jensyn Lins led the Warhawks with two shots apiece. Jennifer Handy took care of business in the second half, recording three saves. Both teams loaded on a combined total of 29 fouls, 14 going to the Warhawks.

The Warhawks will be staying in Monroe for one more match of their three-game homestand, taking on McNeese on Aug. 29. McNeese and ULM will face off at Noon on Thursday in Brown Stadium.
