NORMAN, Okla. – The ULM soccer team (6-2) fell to Oklahoma (6-1) on Thursday night. After multiple Sooner goals in the second half, the Warhawks could not hold onto a tie.
The first half started evenly, both teams posting fouls and corner kicks. The Sooners led in shots throughout the first half, 7-0 and corner kicks 6-2. In the 24
th minute, Hadley Murrell hit the back of the net, putting Oklahoma in the lead, 1-0.
The second half was riddled with fouls and goals from both teams. In the 59
th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to ULM,
Ally Richardson scoring the equalizer for the Warhawks. This was Richardson's second goal of the season and of her career. This tie was maintained until the 75
th minute, when Leonie Weber scored the game-winner for Oklahoma. The lead was extended three minutes later by Abigail McNulty, making the final score 3-1.
Both teams were overcome with fouls throughout the match, the Sooners racking up 13 to the Warhawks' eight. Five different Warhawks were credited with yellow cards, four coming from the final 13 minutes of the match.
The Sooners maintained the lead in shots, 16-4 and corner kicks, 9-2.
Mara Grutkamp led ULM with two shots, both on goal.
Emerson Roberts tallied four saves on the night, including a penalty kick save. Roberts now holds 11 saves on the season.
ULM soccer will return home this weekend, taking on their final nonconference opponent in Central Arkansas on Sunday. The Bears and the Warhawks will kick off at 1 p.m. at Brown Stadium.
