Warhawks Drop Road Contest to No. 1/2 Texas

The Longhorns amassed 497 yards of total offense and held the Warhawks to 111 yards on offense.

AUSTIN, Texas – The ULM football team (2-1) fell in its first road contest of the season 51-3 to No. 1/2 Texas (4-0) on Saturday (Sept. 21) night at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
 
The Longhorns held the Warhawks to 111 yards of total offense on 57 rushing yards and 54 passing yards. Texas generated 497 yards of total offense on 239 rushing yards and 258 passing yards.
 
General Booty completed eight passes on 19 attempts for 42 yards, including a 23-yard pitch-and-catch to tight end Julian Nixon. Davon Wells hauled in five receptions for 19 yards while Nate Sullivan Jr. racked up a pair of receptions for nine yards. On the ground, Taven Curry and Ahmad Hardy each finished with 30 yards apiece.
 
Defensively, Wydett Williams Jr. led the Warhawks with 10 total tackles and picked off his second pass of the season. Carl Fauntroy added another interception for the Warhawks. Daniel Knudsen and Billy Pullen both registered 0.5 sacks while Earl Barquet Jr. tallied 2.0 tackles for loss.
 
In his first career start, Arch Manning racked up 15 completions on 29 attempts for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Jaydon Blue was Texas' leading rusher with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Jerrick Gibson and Ryan Niblett both crossed the goal line for a rushing touchdown. Blue and Ryan Wingo both hauled in a receiving touchdown. Anthony Hill Jr. finished with an interception and a sack.
 
On the Longhorns' first drive, Manning led his team to ULM's 43-yard line. On 2nd and 4, Jaylan Ware applied pressure on Manning, whose pass was picked off by Carl Fauntroy. The interception was Fauntroy's first career interception. After Booty completed a pass to Nate Sullivan Jr. for four yards and Hardy rushed for a yard, Texas' Anthony Hill Jr. dropped Booty for a sack and the Warhawks were forced to punt on a three-and-out.
 
On the ensuing Texas drive, Manning delivered a strike to Isaiah Bond for a 56-yard catch to flip the field to ULM's 12 yard-line. Four plays later, Jaydon Blue rushed for a one-yard touchdown for the game's first points. Hill Jr. intercepted Booty's pass on 2nd and 4 and returned it to the ULM 13-yard line. Manning flipped a three-yard touchdown pass to Blue and increased Texas' early lead to 14-0. The Longhorns' lead increased by three scores when Manning led Ryan Wingo on a 17-yard touchdown pass.
 
Manning led Matthew Golden on a 46-yard completion to extend the Longhorns' first drive in the second quarter on a 3rd and 10. Blue capped off the 12-play, 87-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown rush to put Texas ahead 28-3. ULM pieced together a 13-play, 58-yard scoring drive when Max Larson cashed in on a field goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Williams Jr. snagged his interception on a 3rd and 5 pass from Manning that put the Warhawks in Texas' territory with 1:21 in the half. The Warhawks moved the football to Texas' 27-yard line and Larson had an attempt from 45-yards out at the end of the half. Larson's kick was blocked by the Longhorns and UT led 28-3 at the midway mark.
 
After a ULM three-and-out, Gibson scored Texas' fifth touchdown of the night to make it a 35-3 score. With 4:24 left in the third quarter, Michael Kern pinned the Warhawks at their own three-yard line. Following a trio of ULM penalties, Liona Lefu tackled Ozarrio Smith in the end zone for a Texas safety.
 
Blue scored his third rushing touchdown of the night at the start of the fourth quarter and increased UT's lead to 44-3. Texas' Niblett tacked on a one-yard rushing score and pushed the lead to 51-3 and went on to improve its record to 4-0 on the season.
 
The ULM football team opens Sun Belt Conference play on the road Saturday (Sept. 28) at two-time reigning conference champions Troy. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
