ULM Men's Basketball Finalizes 2024 Signing Class

The Warhawks added four new faces to the 2024-25 men’s basketball roster.

MONROE, La. – Head Coach Keith Richard of ULM men's basketball announced the Warhawks' 2024 signing class on Wednesday (Sept. 4). ULM signed two high school prospects, one four-year transfer and one junior college transfer in the 2024 class.
 
Micah Caster | 6'2" | Guard | Jackson High School (Ala.)
From McIntosh, Ala., Caster was a three-year starter for the Jackson High School Aggies, playing under head coach Anthony Hayes. Caster averaged18.9 points per game, 3.5 assists per game and 3.3 steals per game. Caster's leadership and skills were pivotal in guiding the Aggies to a 30-2 record, and the 2024 4A Alabama State Championship.
Caster was honored as the State Finals MVP scoring 30 points and going 7/8 from behind the three-point line. Caster was named 2024 Alabama Coastal Region Player of the Year, 2024 Alabama 4A First Team All-State and 2024-2023 Alabama 4A First Team All-Region/Area.

In his high school career, Caster shot 81.7% from the free-throw line, 45% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. Caster led his team to an overall 71-14 record in his three seasons, and a 20-game win streak to end the season. Caster was named Mr. JHS, and XI Delta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta "2024 Male Youth of the Year". He was named Dwight Howard's (NBA) Camp MVP. He was also the recipient of NFLs Darius Slayton "Left-Hand Right-Hand Foundation Award".
 
He is the son of Dr. Latunja and Dr. Marcus Caster. Caster's father, Marcus, played college basketball at the University of Mobile, and his mother, Latunja, was a star basketball player for McIntosh High School. In his spare time, Caster enjoys playing board games with his friends and playing cornhole. He has two siblings, Peyton Marcus Caster and Mackenzy Ellis Caster.
 
Ta'Zir Smith | 6'3" | Guard | Pearl River Community College
Ta'Zir Smith transferred to ULM after one season at Pearl River Community College, helping his team to a 21-10 record. In his last season at Pearl River CC, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and two steals in 22 games, reaching double figures in 20 games. He netted a season-high 30 points at Northeast Community College and racked up four double-doubles, including an 18-rebound game against Baton Rouge Post-Grad. Smith played in 28 games for State Fair Community College in 2022-23, averaging 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
 
In high school, Smith was named 2022 MVP at Virginia Academy and averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals per game his senior year. He is the son of Oriel Daubon and the brother of Jamaia Smith and Truth Ashe.

Renars Sondors | 6'9" | Forward | Riga, Latvia
Renars Sondors hails from Riga, Latvia and played the 2023-24 season for Marupe SC in the Latvia Under 19 League. He spent two seasons attending Get Better Academy in Prague, Czech Republic and was coached by Julian Betko, a former college basketball player at Butler University. He participated in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in January 2023 and won the gold medal at the 2023 Under 18 European Championship in Portugal as a member of the Latvian National Team. He is the son of Evita and Normunds Sondors.
 
Coltie Young | 6'3" | Guard | Jackson State
Coltie Young played three seasons at Jackson State, averaging 7.9 points per game in 90 games with the Tigers. In his final season, he compiled 8.7 points per game and brought down 4.0 boards per game. He averaged 10.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game his sophomore season and had two 10+ rebound games and two double-doubles. He scored a career-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds versus Mississippi State on Dec. 14, 2022.
 
A graduate of Starkville High School, Young was one of Mississippi's top high school recruits and won two state championships and was voted All-Area Player of the Year. He also was named to Mississippi's Dandy Dozen and was a multiple honoree Player of the Week by the Starkville Daily News. Young is the son of Linda and Larry Young.
