SAN MARCOS, Texas – A lost lead in the third set was the catalyst for a 3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 18-25) defeat for ULM volleyball at the hands of Texas State Saturday afternoon.
Â
Amelia Piekut once again led the way offensively for the Warhawks (9-15, 0-10 Sun Belt) with seven kills and an ace.
Morgan Howard also collected a team-leading 21 assists and 16 digs throughout three sets.
Â
Similar to the first match, the Bobcats (10-11, 5-5 Sun Belt) started the first set strong with a 7-2 run. ULM crawled back into it with a 4-1 run to make it a two-point set. A pair of 4-1 runs by TXST gave it a 17-11 lead late. The Warhawks made it a five-point separation late, but five unanswered Bobcat points gave them the set.
Â
A 10-3 start in the second gave Texas State complete control with the help of five Warhawk attack errors. Powered by two kills from
Kennedy Plummer, ULM worked the set to five points with a 14-9 score, but a 6-2 run by the Bobcats increased the deficit to nine and put the set out of reach.
Â
Facing another 2-0 match hole, the Warhawks started set three with a sense of urgency, surging to a 9-5 lead with help from seven TXST attack errors. With two kills and an ace by Piekut, ULM held a 16-11 lead midway through the set. The Warhawks only mustered up two points the rest of the way, part of a 14-2 run by the Bobcats, which included seven errors by the visitors. When all was said and done, the result was another weekend sweep for ULM.
Â
The Warhawks are back on the court next weekend with a home series against Troy.
