MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) has named S.J. Tuohy as its next Director of Athletics, as announced on Friday (Nov. 28). Tuohy most recently served as Deputy Athletic Director of Development at Oral Roberts University.
"We are thrilled to welcome S.J. Tuohy to the bayou as the next ULM Director of Athletics," said ULM President Dr. Carrie L. Castille. "S.J. brings the energy and experience we need to take our athletic department into the future. He is passionate about this job and this university, and he is committed to serving in this role with excellence. We had a great candidate pool to choose from, and we are grateful to our selection committee for their diligent vetting which led to this selection," added Castille.
Tuohy, a native of Memphis, Tenn., is a 2016 graduate of Loyola University Maryland where he played four seasons of basketball. He earned a master's degree in humanities from SMU in 2017, where he played one season of football as a member of the special teams unit.
"I want to thank Dr. Castille for giving me the opportunity to serve this university and community," said Tuohy. "I believe we are approaching a transformational time for ULM Athletics, and I am thrilled to play a part in that change. I can't wait to get to Monroe with our athletes, coaches, and staff, and get to work!"
Tuohy began his career in college athletics as Director of Football Operations at Arkansas from 2018-2019, and then as Assistant Athletics Director and Director of Football Operations at Liberty University in 2020. He joined the UCF football staff in 2021 as Director of Football Operations and was promoted to Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff following the 2021 season. In 2023, Tuohy became Executive Director of The Kingdom NIL, UCF's name, image, and likeness collective. He became Deputy Athletic Director of Development at Oral Roberts in November 2024.
As Director of Athletics, Tuohy will supervise ULM's 16 intercollegiate teams that compete in the NCAA Division I and the Sun Belt Conference.
ULM Head Football Coach Bryant Vincent has served as Interim Director of Athletics since August. Tuohy was selected by a search committee led by ULM Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michelle McEacharn.
Tuohy's hiring is subject to approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
