MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) pulled away from their I-20 rivals Louisiana Tech (0-2, 0-0 C-USA) Friday night to win 70-62. The win marks the first time since 2006 that the Warhawks have defeated the Lady Techsters in Monroe and it secured a 2-0 start for the second consecutive season.
Kamille Brown came off the bench to score a career high 16 points including knocking down three of four attempts from three-point range.
J'Mani Ingram (12),
Asjah Inniss (12),
Keshunti Nichols (12) and
Nakiyah Mays-Prince (10) also scored in double figures. It was the first time five ULM players scored in double figures in one game since vs. Grambling State on March 25, 2024, in the first round of the WNIT.
Ingram got the Warhawks off on the right foot by scoring their first five points punctuated by an old-fashioned three-point play. After LA Tech responded with back-to-back baskets, Brown would sub in and connect on her first two three-point attempts to grab the lead back for the Warhawks each time. Inniss would chip in five points at the end of the quarter on a three and a pair of free throws to help secure a six-point lead after one quarter.
With the score tied at 26 in the second quarter, ULM's offense and defense were able to sync up, instigating a 9-0 run highlighted by back-to-back baskets in the paint by Nichols. The Warhawks would hold the Lady Techsters to 26.7 percent shooting for the quarter and take an eight-point lead into halftime.
LA Tech would respond in the third quarter after the Warhawks pushed the lead as high as 11. The Lady Techsters hit the offensive glass and got to the line in order to put together an 8-0 run to tie the game at 46. A three-pointer with 40 seconds left would give the visitors one of their few leads on the night but Brown would answer with a layup to preserve a one-point lead heading into the final interval.
ULM put it all together in the fourth quarter as they utilized a 12-3 run to push the lead to a game high of 13 behind scoring contributions from four different players. The Warhawks put the game on ice down the stretch by going a near perfect five for six from the free throw line.
For the second game in a row, ULM held their opponent below 40 percent shooting from the field as LA Tech finished at 33.9 percent. The Warhawks forced 20 turnovers and outscored the Lady Techsters 40-24 in the paint. The bench once again stepped up to shoulder the scoring load as they were responsible for 38 of the team's 70 points.
ULM will look to move to 3-0 inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Tuesday when they host in-state foes Grambling State. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
