SAN MARCOS, Texas – The ULM women's basketball team (5-6, 0-2 Sun Belt) suffered defeat Saturday afternoon as they lost to Texas State (5-6, 2-0 Sun Belt) 79-69. The Bobcats outscored the Warhawks 48-28 across the third and fourth quarters after the visitors had secured a 10-point lead at halftime.
Jazmine Jackson led a group of four ULM players in double figures with 17 points including making five three-pointers for the third time this season while adding five rebounds.
J'Mani Ingram finished with 15 points and was followed by
Nakiyah Mays-Prince (13) and
Marcavia Shavers (10).
It was a slow start for the Warhawks as they found themselves down 14-5 midway through the first quarter thanks to hot shooting from the home team. Defense helped flip the script for ULM as they would score three straight times off of turnovers led by two baskets from
Keshunti Nichols. A three-pointer by Jackson from the top of the key punctuated a 7-1 run that tied the game at 18 going into the second quarter.
After the Bobcats scored first in the second quarter, another three from Jackson ignited an 8-0 run by the Warhawks that put them up by six. An
Asia Barclay three-point play followed by multiple three-pointers from Jackson highlighted an additional 13-3 run that put ULM up as much as 14 before eventually settling back down to 10 at halftime.
Texas State wasted no time responding to start the third quarter as they scored the first three baskets prior an ULM timeout. Layups from Shavers and Ingram would push the lead back to eight points, but the Bobcats continued to chip away. A three-pointer at the buzzer allowed for the home side to take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Warhawks would get within three points on multiple occasions, but Texas State put together a 13-3 run that eventually allowed them to seal the victory. The Bobcats shot 58 percent from the field and outscored ULM 46-30 in the paint and 20-10 in fast break points despite being forced into turning the ball over 25 times.
ULM will look to take advantage of a holiday break before they return to their home floor on January 1 vs. South Alabama. Tipoff at Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.
