MONROE, La. – The ULM men's basketball team (2-7) returns to Fant-Ewing Coliseum, hosting the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes (6-5) on Tuesday (Dec. 9). Tipoff against the Buffaloes is scheduled for noon for ULM's Lil Warhawk Day.
FIRST-TIME MEETING –
The Warhawks will take on the Buffaloes for the first time in program history, one of four new opponents in the 2025-26 season. ULM has already taken on Northern Illinois for the first time and Mississippi Valley State, going 1-1 against new opponents thus far. ULM will also face Kansas State for the first time on December 28 to round things out.
SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES –
Arkansas Baptist sits at 6-5 on the season, claiming wins over Texas College two times, Williams Baptist and Wiley (TX). Most recently, the Buffaloes continued a two-game win streak with a victory over Williams Baptist, 68-65. Still undefeated at home, the Buffaloes search to improve their 2-5 road record in Monroe. Christopher Hood leads the team with a scoring average of 10.7, Lequan Washington and Treylon Swayzer close behind, averaging 10.6 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Swayzer leads the team with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game, also picking up 14 steals this season.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES –
Lavell Brodnex has been leading the charge in rebounding since his debut for ULM on November 13 against HCU. Brodnex has scored in double figures three times and posted double-digit boads two times, both leading to a double-double. Brodnex is the only Warhawk this season to register a double-double. He first pulled down 12 rebounds and had 16 points vs. Morehead State (Nov. 22), then logged 11 rebounds and a career-high 23 points against SFA (Dec. 7).
LEADING THE TEAM –
MJ Russell leads the pack in scoring, averaging 17.1 points, placing him third in the Sun Belt. He also leads the team in three-point percentage (.388) and blocks (1.1). Krystian Lewis averages 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 34.3 minutes a game to lead the team. Lavell Brodnex has collected 46 rebounds across six games, averaging 7.7 to lead the Warhawks, while Przemek Hartman leads in field goal percentage with .500.
MILESTONE MARKERS –
A handful of Warhawks have crossed milestones in the opening eight games of the 2025-26 season. Against HCU, Renars Sondors broke the 100-point milestone, since reaching 138 career points. Just a game later, ULM scoring leader MJ Russell reach his own 100-point mark. Russell sits with 195 career points, on track to cross the 200-point threshold in the next game. Most recently, Krystian Lewis broke the century mark against Mississippi Valley State, sitting at 106 career points. Micah Caster is on the lookout for that 100-point mark, just nine points away at 91 across his career.
