MONROE, La. – ULM women's basketball team (9-14, 5-7) hits the road for Troy, facing the Troy Trojans (15-10, 9-3). Tip-off in Trojan Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 12). Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Warhawks and the Trojans will be competing for the 32nd time in the series, ULM looking to break a 13-game losing streak and claim their first win over Troy since 2016. The first matchup between ULM and Troy was on Dec. 4, 1998 in Albuquerque, N.M., a 67-47 Warhawk win. The Warhawks have not swept the series since 2014. The most recent matchup for the two teams was April 1, 2024, when the Trojans defeated ULM 75-89 in Troy in the Great 8 of the WNIT.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS –
The Trojans are looking to capture a win, after a loss to Kent State in the MAC/SBC challenge. Zay Dyer leads the team in points per game (12.7), also leading in field goal percentage (.426) and rebounds (10.5). Dyer has won back-to-back Sun Belt Player of the Week awards this season, tallying a conference-high 11 double-doubles. Ashley Baez also averages in double-digits (11.1), leading the team in steals (1.8). In Troy's last Sun Belt game (a win over Old Dominion), four Trojans reached double-figures, with Dyer and Brianna Jackson hitting 19 points. Jackson also picked up a double-double with 22 rebounds, a Sun Belt season record.
LEADING THE TEAM –
Jakayla Johnson currently leads the team in points per game (15.6), three-point percentage (.355), assists (74) and steals (41). Johnson leads the Sun Belt in free throw percentage (.837), is second in points per game and eighth in field goal percentage (.415).
Sakyia White opened the season going 9-9 vs. Central Baptist (Nov. 4), dropping 18 points and now leads the team in field goal percentage (.497). She then followed up with a 16-rebound performance vs. Tulane (Dec. 21) and a 14-rebound showing versus Arkansas State (Jan. 11), leading the team in rebounds per game (8.0) and fifth in the Sun Belt. White also led the team with 19 points at South Alabama (Feb. 8), her fourth game this season leading the team in scoring.
DOUBLE DOUBLE –
Laila Walker logged the team's first double-double of the season against Louisiana Christian (Nov. 11), posting 10 points and 11 rebounds. The achievement was also Walker's first career double-double. Sakyia White, Katlyn Manuel and Jakayla Johnson have also been credited with double-doubles this season. The most recent double-double achieved by a Warhawk was White, who recorded 19 points and 13 rebounds at South Alabama (Feb. 8) for her third double-double of the season.
