MONROE – The ULM baseball team put up 11 runs in the first two innings of play and took down Grambling State 17-2 in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers (2-2) drew first blood in the starting frame with an RBI-double hit by Trey Bridges to go up 1-0. They loaded the bases after two walks given up by
Brennan Eager, but a groundout to
Angelo Aleman ended the threat and stopped the bleeding.

Artzberger and Lunsford both walked to start the bottom half before a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring positions.
Isaiah Walker put ULM (3-1) on the board with an RBI-single, and
Jake Haggard produced an RBI-triple, giving it the lead.
Bryce Blaser grounded out, scoring Haggard from third, and
Tony Lindwedel hit a ball through the left side, scoring
Henry Garcia Jr. Aleman scored on a wild pitch, and the Warhawks held a 6-1 lead to end the first.

Eager forced a three-up, three-down inning in the top of the second. With two outs in the bottom half, the Warhawks loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. Another hit batter scored Haggard, and Lindwedel produced a two-run single to give ULM an eight-run lead. Aleman hit another two-RBI hit for the Warhawks and put the game at 11-1 going into the third.

With three more strikeouts, Eager once again allowed no runs in the top of the third and held six through 3.0 innings pitched. With a runner on third in the bottom of the inning, Haggard hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Lunsford to make it 12-1.

Grambling State went down in the top of the fourth with two groundouts and another strikeout from Eager, and the Warhawks scored on a sac fly in the bottom half to go up 13-1.

Jackson Conn entered in the fifth inning and struck out two batters to keep the Tigers at one run. With bases loaded walks and a sacrifice fly, ULM added four runs to build a 16-run lead.
Hollis Huff pitched in the sixth and added two strikeouts, bringing the total to 11 on the day for the Warhawk pitching staff.

ULM was held scoreless for the first time all game in the bottom of the sixth. Grambling State added a run in the seventh with a base hit but still trailed by 15 at the end of the top of the seventh, ending the contest with a run rule.

Haggard ended the game with four RBI and two runs scored off one hit. Walker, Lindwedel, and Aleman also ended the day with multi-hit games.

The Warhawks are back in action this weekend with a three-game series against Houston Christian. Game one starts on Friday at 6 p.m. at Lou St. Amant Field.
