MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team (1-0) opened the spring season on Tuesday (Feb. 4) afternoon, taking on local foe Grambling State (0-2) at Heard Stadium in Monroe. The Warhawks got hot early, winning the doubles point and getting ahead early in singles play.
The ULM tennis team competed strongly in singles play, with
Mariam Hatem claiming the undefeated win on Court 1.
Mariia Iordanova, Lucia Jorrin Fernandez and
Raquel Alvaro claimed wins as well, closing the door on the Tigers.
Vanja Cado battled through a close second set to come out with the win, with newcomer
Enna Krnjic fighting through the super tiebreaker to fall at the end of the match.
In doubles play, the duos of Hatem/Iordanova and Alvaro/Krnjic claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins over Tiger duos, opening the season undefeated in doubles play. Cado/Fernandez kept it close but fought through the end to win the doubles point for ULM.
Next up, ULM tennis will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on Feb. 7 to compete against Stephen F. Austin. The Warhawks are looking to continue on their hot streak against the Lumberjacks.
