Warhawks Break Program Single-Game Stolen Bases Record, Run-Rule Alcorn State 11-1 in Seven Innings

ULM stole 14 bases en route to an 11-1 run-rule win over the Braves Tuesday night.

MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team (8-8) won its third-straight game with a 11-1 run-rule victory over Alcorn State (2-11) on Tuesday (March 11) night at Lou St. Amant Field in Monroe, La.

The Warhawks stole 14 bases in Tuesday night's game and set a program record for stolen bases in a single game, which was previously 10 set on Feb. 29, 2020 versus Illinois State.

ULM starter Brennan Eager worked around a pair of two-out singles by the Braves in the first inning and tossed a scoreless first. Colby Lunsford singled in his first at-bat and recorded ULM's first stolen base of the night in a scoreless first inning for ULM. Henry Garcia Jr. singled and swiped second base and Zach White added another steal after being hit by a pitch in the second, but ULM was kept off the scoreboard. Michelle Artzberger stole ULM's fourth bag of the night in the third, but the Braves completed another scoreless inning.

Eager continued to quiet the Braves' bats and struck out two batters in the fourth. ULM's offense broke through with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jackson Landry started the inning with a leadoff single through the right side and proceeded to steal second base. After a walk by Jack Clark, Zach White dropped a bunt single to load the bases. Angelo Aleman was plucked by a pitch for ULM's first run of the night. On a 3-2 pitch, Lunsford launched his first career grand slam on a 357-foot blast that cleared the left-center field wall. Eager shut down the Braves in the fifth on a strikeout, a line out and a ground out. Landry reached base for the second consecutive time to start the fifth on a walk. After a Clark base hit, Zach White delivered his first career RBI knock that scored two on a double down the left field line to extend ULM's lead to 7-0. A walk by Angelo Aleman and Lunsford's second hit of the night loaded the bases with no outs. Bryce Blaser expanded the Warhawks' lead to eight on a sacrifice fly that scored White.

After Justin Robinson completed the sixth inning without surrendering a run, the Warhawks added their ninth run of the night in the bottom of the sixth when Zach White drove in Garcia Jr. on an RBI ground out. The Braves plated a run in the seventh inning to make the score 9-1 ULM. Jacob Billings walked and Kade Dupont singled to start the bottom half of the seventh for ULM. After Dupont stole second base, Barham White scored Billings from third on a sacrifice fly to left. During the next at-bat, Dupont stole third base for ULM's 14th stolen base of the night. Landry delivered the game-winning base hit with two outs after he pulled a 3-2 pitch to left field and the Warhawks completed the run-rule win.

ULM finished the night with 10 hits with Lunsford leading the way with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, including a grand slam. Two freshman, Landry and Zach White, both recorded multi-hit games. Six Warhawks accounted for 13 of the 14 stolen bases as Garcia Jr. had three while Lunsford, Dupont, Artzberger, Landry and Clark all had two stolen bags apiece. Eager punched out four Braves and allowed just three hits in five innings of work, improving his record to 2-1 on the season.

The ULM baseball team opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at James Madison. Game one of the series is scheduled for Friday (March 14) at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT from Harrisonburg, Virginia.
