Warhawks Fall in Extra Innings to the Cajuns

Three home runs were scored to accumulate an early lead for ULM, but later innings gave the home team the edge.

LAFAYETTE, La. – The ULM softball team (22-12, 3-1 Sun Belt) feel in eight innings to the Ragin' Cajuns (15-13, 2-2 Sun Belt) on Friday evening (March 21) in Lafayette. The Warhawks claimed the early lead, but three runs scored in the seventh tied things up, leading to extra innings and a walk-off home run for the Cajuns.

A first-inning home run by Morgan Brown gave ULM momentum early, the Warhawks closing out the Cajuns in the first. The third inning brought another bomb to left field, this time coming from Jacelyn Buck. After three innings, the Warhawks held a steady 2-0 lead.

A third home run came in the fourth inning, as Reece Briggs added to the tally, the Warhawks closing out the Cajuns to hold a three-run lead. Scoreless fifth and sixth innings sent ULM into the seventh without allowing a run.

After the top of the seventh brought no more runs for the Warhawks, the bottom held scores for the Cajuns. Two walks and a double lead to the tying three runs for the Cajuns, sending the game to extra innings.

In the eighth inning, a lead-off single for Brooklin Lippert put ULM in good position, but a double play ended the top of the eighth for ULM. In the bottom of the eighth, Sam Roe of the Ragin' Cajuns hit a two-run homer to center field, finding the lead and clinching the walk-off win for the home team, 5-3.
