MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team (9-14, 1-5 Sun Belt) dropped its series finale to No. 19 Southern Miss (18-6, 5-1) by a score of 14-2 on Sunday (March 23) afternoon at Lou St. Amant Field in Monroe, La.

Daniel Gonzalez set the tone with a scoreless first inning despite a hit by Davis Gillespie. The first two Warhawks reached base after a Southern Miss error and a base hit through the right side by
Henry Garcia Jr. Jacob Billings drove in the first run of the game on an RBI groundout that scored
Bryce Blaser. The Golden Eagles committed another error that led to Garcia Jr. scoring and the Warhawks led 2-0 at the end of the first. Southern Miss loaded the bases with one out in the second, but Gonzalez kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard after pitching a flyout and his first strikeout of the afternoon.
Marcus Aranda hit his third double of the season to leadoff the second frame for ULM before three consecutive outs ended the inning. With two outs and two on in the top of the third, Carson Paetow lifted his second home run of the series that gave the Golden Eagles the lead, 3-2. Billings picked up a single with two outs in the third, and the visitors maintained the lead through three.

Tucker Stockman crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Ozzie Pratt in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Nick Monistere delivered a grand slam that padded USM's lead to 8-2 and completed a big five-run inning for the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss extended its lead in the top of the fifth with two runs from a bases loaded walk by Pratt and a sacrifice fly by Matthew Russo. Garcia Jr. doubled for his second hit of the afternoon in the fifth and third double of the series.Â
Brandon Brewer entered the game out of the bullpen and pitched a 1-2-3 top of the sixth inning after a leadoff walk. ULM was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth, and the Golden Eagles held a 10-2 cushion.

Brewer navigated around a one-out single in a scoreless seventh. Aranda recorded his second hit of the day in the seventh inning and a hit by pitch and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Southern Miss reliever Chandler Best escaped out of the jam with three straight outs and the Warhawks stranded three runs, as Southern Miss maintained its eight-run lead. Paetow launched his second three-run homer of the day and pushed the lead to 13-2. Another RBI hit from USM increased the margin to 14-2 before ULM was sent in order in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Warhawks will start a five-game road swing in Arkansas on Tuesday by starting with a midweek at Central Arkansas, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. in Conway.
