PENSACOLA, Fla. – The ULM women's basketball team (11-18, 7-11) travels to Pensacola for the 2025 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Championships, taking on (12) Georgia Southern (15-17, 6-12). Tip-off at the Pensacola Bay Center is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday (March 5). The ninth-seeded Warhawks are on the hunt for a win in postseason play.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Eagles and the Warhawks are playing for the 17th time in their history, a series dating back to 2015. The most recent contest between the two teams was the home conference opener for the Warhawks, a dominant 83-67 win in Monroe. The lone time ULM faced the Eagles in the conference tournament, Georgia Southern fell to ULM in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament last season, 78-57, breaking a five-game Georgia Southern win streak.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES –
The 12th-seeded Eagles are looking to continue on their three-game win streak, recently claiming a 70-59 win over Southern Miss in the first round of the Sun Belt Championships. Nicole Gwynn leads the team in points per game (12.9), also leading in three-point percentage (.323) and fre throw percentage (.752). Indya Green rounds out the double-digit scorers, averaging 12.3 points per game, leading the team with 8.6 boards per game. Leah Johnson scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds against Southern Miss, leading the team.
POSTSEASON HISTORY –
The Warhawks will be traveling to Pensacola for the fourth season, the ninth year competing in the Sun Belt Championships since ULM joined the conference in 2006. In the 13 trips and 18 games ULM has played to the Sun Belt Championships, they claim a 4-14 record. In the last trip to Pensacola in 2024, the Warhawks defeated Georgia Southern, 78-57 to get to the second round of the tournament for the first time since 2013. ULM went on to fall to Old Dominion in the next round, 64-67.
LEADING THE TEAM –
Jakayla Johnson currently leads the team in points per game (15.3), three-point percentage (.366), assists (96) and steals (52). Johnson is second in the Sun Belt in free throw percentage (.817), third in points per game and and seventh in field goal percentage (.396).
Sakyia White picked up a 16-rebound performance vs. Tulane (Dec. 21) and two 14-rebound showings, last at Troy (Feb. 12). After snagging 21 boards against Marshall (Feb. 26), White leads the team in rebounds per game (8.5), ranking second in the Sun Belt.
Meloney Thames has reached the 20+-point mark six times this season, most recently versus Troy (Feb. 20), scoring 22. She has led the team in scoring 10 times, averaging 13.3 points per game. Thames can frequently be found shooting beyond the arc, most recently shooting 5-8 (.625) from three against Troy.
ALL-SUN BELT HONORS –
Jakayla Johnson was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team after a record-breaking season. This is the second time Johnson has been named all-conference, the first coming in 2024, when the guard was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team. This is the second time in program history a player has been named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, the first being Ashleigh Simmons in 2014.
