Bullpen Shines, ULM Wins Game Three vs. Trojans

Barham White and Jake Haggard produce back-to-back homers as Josh Gregoire and Brandon Brewer pitch out of bases-loaded jams in 7-3 victory.

TROY, Ala. – A four-run top of the fourth inning and an effort by the bullpen gave the ULM baseball team an all-important 7-3 victory over No. 20 Troy in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.

Isaiah Walker again led off with a single into center field to reach base, but a double play ended the opportunity and resulted in a scoreless top frame. The Warhawks (20-21, 6-12) kept the game scoreless through the first with Brennan Eager recording three outs and allowing only one hit.

ULM had opportunities in the second and third inning. They could not capitalize, leaving two total runners on base. Brennan Eager continued his scoreless bid, holding the Trojans (28-12, 12-6) to no runs through the first three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning with Bryce Blaser on second, Henry Garcia Jr. lined one through the left-center gap to give the Warhawks their first lead of the series. A wild pitch with the bases loaded scored another run, and a sacrifice bunt by Major Brignon made it a 3-0 ballgame. Tony Lindwedel produced an RBI single to give ULM its fourth run of the frame, resulting in a four-run lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the bases were loaded with no one out as Josh Gregoire was brought in for relief. He limited the damage by allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly, and the Warhawks still held a 4-1 lead.

Barham White and Jake Haggard hit back-to-back home runs to give ULM a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Gregoire followed with another scoreless inning to keep the lead heading into the seventh.

ULM once again found itself in a jam with the bases loaded after Troy hit a two-run home run to start the frame. Brandon Brewer entered from the bullpen and got the Warhawks out of it with no further damage.

With two outs in the top of the eighth, Troy put two runners on with a walk and a base hit, but a ground ball to third base ended the threat. Down four in the bottom of the ninth, the Trojans opened the inning with a five-pitch walk. A Brewer strikeout, a ground-out, and a pop-up to Major Brignon sealed it, and the Warhawks prevented the sweep with a game three victory.

Gregoire and Brewer combined for the win and save out of the bullpen for ULM. Walker and Haggard both collected multi-hit games.

The Warhawks return to the diamond on Wednesday evening with their third matchup against Louisiana Tech starting at 6 p.m. in Ruston.
