MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (34-21, 14-10 Sun Belt) dropped the final two games of the series against Texas State (34-18, 16-8 Sun Belt) on Saturday (May 3) in a doubleheader to close out the regular season. The Warhawks closed out play at the ULM Softball Complex with a record-breaking 1,453 fans in attendance, the largest crowd in ULM Softball history. In the regular season finale, ULM also honored their seniors:
Victoria Abrams,
Jacelyn Buck and
Layla Thompson.
Game 1: Texas State 7, ULM 4
A two-run home run in the first inning set the Bobcats up nicely, holding ULM without a score in the first. After a scoreless second for both teams, a second two-run homer by Aiyana Coleman made it a 4-0 score in favor of the visitors. A throwing error scored the three more for Texas State, solidifying a seven-run lead.
Two more scoreless innings for both teams set up the sixth, where
Layla Thompson was able to score
Hollie Thomas from an RBI single. The Warhawk bats began to get hot in the seventh, fighting to stay in the contest. After
Carys Platt,
Brooklin Lippert and
Meagan Brown singled,
Morgan Brown hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.
Maryssa Zenzen then hit a pop-up to get herself to second base and score the second of the inning.
Elle Carter followed things up with an RBI single to score the fourth run. The final out was picked up before the rally was continued, Texas State clinching the series, 7-4.
Five Warhawks posted multi-hit games in the contest, three each picking up an RBI.

Maryssa Zenzen led the squad on defense with seven putouts.
Victoria Abrams was credited with the loss, pitching three innings and allowing seven hits and two walks.
Maddie Nichols came into the circle on fire, pitching four innings to allow three hits, no runs and striking out a batter.
Game 2: Texas State 6, ULM 2
Texas State got off to another early start, an RBI single scoring the first run for the Bobcats in the top of the first. Another scoreless second allowed for Texas State to fill the bases in the third, a walk scoring the second run of the day for the 2-0 score. After the fourth and fifth upheld the score for both teams, a fielder's choice scored the third run for the Bobcats for the three-run lead.
With two outs in the sixth, senior
Layla Thompson hit a two-run homer, her third of the season and sixth of her career. After ULM cut the deficit to one, the Bobcats responded, a two-RBI triple and an RBI ground-out scoring three more in the top of the seventh to secure the victory, 6-2.

Dakota Lake is credited with the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing four runs on four hits, striking out three batters.
Bristin Bordeau got the start on the day, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing two runs and striking out a batter.
In the regular season, the 2025 Warhawks broke the program attendance record with 1,453, but also broke a number of other records. They have won the most Sun Belt games in a season, winning the most games since 1997 with 34. With 332 runs, 485 hits, 79 doubles and 286 RBIs, this team breaks each of those single-season records.
ULM will be competing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Troy, Alabama next week, the tournament beginning on Wednesday (May 7) and concluding on Saturday (May 10) with the championship.
