Warhawks Drop Series Finale at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Tx. – The ULM baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend series vs Texas State 10-0 in a run-rule loss on Sunday.

Isaiah Walker started the game with a walk before the first double play of the afternoon ended the opportunity as the Warhawks (21-27, 7-17) had a three-up, three-down inning.  After a single by the Bobcats (24-24, 12-12) to start the bottom half, Landon Grigg retired the next three batters, ending the inning with a strikeout.

With one out in the top of the second, Michelle Artzberger and Barham White produced back-to-back hits, but another double play ended the inning, holding ULM scoreless. Grigg pitched another blank frame to keep the game 0-0 heading into the third.

With two outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the third, Coy DeFury lined one in the right field corner, allowing two runs to score and giving Texas State the early advantage.

Bryce Blaser advanced to third base to create the best scoring chance for the Warhawks up to that point, but a White fly-out left him stranded. The Bobcats opened the bottom of the fourth with a hit-by-pitch walk, but a strikeout/throw-out double play followed, and a fly out kept the game 2-0 going into the fifth.

After a scoreless fifth inning, things unraveled for ULM in the bottom of the sixth. Texas State loaded the bases with no outs before a single through the right side scored two Bobcats. On a routine ground ball, the throw to first was offline past Artzberger, allowing another run to score on a throwing error. Another Texas State single scored two more runs, creating a seven-run lead for the home team at the end of the inning.

The Warhawks were held scoreless for the next two innings to keep the game 7-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth. After an RBI single scored another run for the Bobcats, putting runners at the corners, a double into left center field brought both runners home, ending the game with a 10-0 run-rule final.

The Warhawks are back in action next weekend with a three-game series against Coastal Carolina. Game one starts on Thursday, May 8, at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
