TROY, Ala. – The ULM softball team (35-22, 14-10 Sun Belt) fell to ninth-seeded James Madison (28-25, 11-13 Sun Belt) on Friday afternoon (May 9), bringing a historic 2025 season to a close with a 4-2 score.
An early two-run homer in the first inning gave James Madison an early advantage, with the Warhawks fighting to return the favor. A scoreless second and third for both teams brought up the fourth, where a triple and a wild pitch scored the third run for the Dukes, extending the lead.
A second home run from Cali Legzdin in the fifth brought the score to 4-0, as the Warhawks was unable to find momentum offensively. In the sixth, ULM's defense held the Dukes scoreless, as the team looked to find a run.

After holding James Madison without a score in the top of the seventh, the Warhawks looked to rally, but three fly-outs closed out the contest, sending the Dukes to the Sun Belt Softball Championship.

Victoria Abrams was credited with the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing three runs, a walk and striking out three batters.
Dakota Lake closed the game out with 3.1 innings in the circle, allowing one run, one walk and striking out two batters.
In a record-breaking season for ULM, the Warhawks hold the single-season record in hits, runs, RBIs, doubles, batting average, slugging percentage, total bases and saves. The team has entered the top five in seven other single-season categories.
ULM went 22-3 at the ULM Softball Complex and set multiple attendance records, feats not achieved before. Four ULM players were named all-conference, the most ever selected since joining the Sun Belt, with
Molly Fichtner named Sun Belt Coach of the Year. With the winningest Sun Belt season ever and the winningest season since 1997, the 2025 Warhawks have been cemented into history.
