ULM Soccer Remains Unbeaten in Sun Belt Play

The Warhawks claimed a 1-0 win at Arkansas State in the first conference road match of 2025.

JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM soccer team (7-2-1, 2-0-1 Sun Belt) claimed a 1-0 win at Arkansas State (2-1-5, 0-1-2 Sun Belt) to remain unbeaten in conference play. After going scoreless in the first half, captain Skylar Blaise broke away to score her third game winner of the season in the second half.

Unlike many of ULM's recent matches, both teams spent the majority of the first half battling for possession, neither able to gain control of the ball. Three shots came in the first half for the Warhawks, with the Red Wolves recording their first shot in the 37th minute. But neither team was able to convert a shot into a score. ULM has not seen a scoreless first half this week between both teams.

While both teams held the 0-0 score in the second half, ULM found the attacking pressure, fighting to find the first score of the contest. Just as the Warhawks were able to apply pressure, the Red Wolves began to find opportunities, notching a shot on target, Jen Handy with the save.

In the 65th minute, Giulia Franco passed the ball to Blaise, who broke away and easily captured her sixth goal of the season and the first of the match. The assist was Franco's second of the season. The Red Wolves pushed to find the equalizer, but the ULM defense kept them at bay, maintaining the 1-0 win.

Blaise led the team with three shots, with Margret Edda Bjarnadottir close behind with two. ULM out-shot Arkansas State 8-4, while the Red Wolves recorded two corner kicks. For the first time all season, the Warhawks did not draw a corner kick in the match.

Blaise moves into fifth place all-time with 17 career goals. Goalkeeper Jen Handy posted another clean sheet, her third this season. She moves to 5-2-1 on the season, posting two saves in the win.

ULM Soccer will travel east next week, traveling to Coastal Carolina on Friday (Sept. 26). The Warhawks and the Chanticleers will face off at 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET.
