MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (8-9, 3-5 Sun Belt) outscored the Ragin' Cajuns (1-17, 0-8 Sun Belt) 25-7 in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 102-58 win on Saturday. The Warhawks not only posted a season high in points scored but the 44-point win represents the largest margin of victory in program history against the Cajuns. The win also stands as the first 100-point game against Sun Belt opposition in program history and the first against a conference opponent since 1988.Â
Â
Nakiyah Mays-Prince led ULM in scoring for the second straight game as she went for 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting while also dishing out a season high 10 assists for her first double-double of the season.
Asia Barclay established a new career high of 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while also grabbing five rebounds.
J'Mani Ingram also recorded her first double-double this season with 12 points and 11 rebounds while
Katelyn Chomko knocked down four three-pointers on her way to a season high 12 points.
Â
The Warhawks did not allow their rivals to get comfortable this go-around as a three-pointer from Chomko initiated an 11-0 run by the home team to begin the game. ULM were active in forcing turnovers and getting offensive rebounds early as they put together a 13-3 run to end the quarter up 18 thanks to a steal and basket at the buzzer by Ingram.Â
Â
The Cajuns began to push back in the second quarter as their offense was the driving force of a 9-2 run but the Warhawks would respond with a 10-0 run of their own beginning with three straight baskets inside by Barclay. Baskets by
Keshunti Nichols and Mays-Prince eventually led to ULM taking a 25-point lead into halftime.
Â
Mays-Prince set the tone for the Warhawks' best offensive quarter of the season by making her first three attempts from long range to begin the third. A three-point play by Barclay off a feed from Mays-Prince gave ULM their first 30-point lead of the season. The Warhawks would not stop there as a 13-0 run punctuated by a second-chance basket by Nichols pushed the lead above 40. ULM ended up outscoring the Cajuns 30-16 in total for the third quarter.
Â
Points continued to come in abundance for the Warhawks in the fourth quarter as Chomko connected three more times from three-point range to increase the lead above 50 for the hosts. Baskets by
Kamille Brown and
Marissa Gasaway would push ULM above the 100-point threshold for the first time this season and help secure the blowout victory.
Â
ULM finished the game scoring a season high 42 points off of 24 Cajun turnovers. They outrebounded the visitors 49-25 including a season high 31 offensive rebounds. ULM also established new season highs in bench points (54), second-chance points (40) and assists (22).
Â
The Warhawks are now set for their third straight home game as they prepare to welcome James Madison to Monroe. Tipoff at Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.
