MONROE, La. – The ULM men's basketball team (3-19, 0-10 Sun Belt) will officially return to Fant-Ewing Coliseum, hosting Coastal Carolina (13-10, 6-5 Sun Belt) on Sunday (Feb. 1) at 1 p.m. CT. The Warhawks finally return to their home court after falling to Georgia Southern at Grambling State, playing in Grambling due to the impacts of Winter Storm Fern.
SERIES HISTORY –
ULM will face the Chanticleers for the 14th time in the program's history, a series dating back to 1992. On a two-game win streak, Coastal Carolina looks to extend to three against the Warhawks. ULM still holds the edge when hosting the Chants with a 3-1 home record, but Coastal Carolina still holds the overall series record, 9-4. The last win for ULM was 2024, a 79-75 victory at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS –
Coastal Carolina arrives in Monroe on Sunday with a 13-10 overall record, sitting just above .500 in conference play with a 6-5 mark. The Chanticleers have claimed notable league victories over App State, Marshall and Texas State. Georgia Southern leads the conference in rebound average (40.5), ranking 28th nationally. Joshua Beadle leads the Chants in scoring with 16.7 points per game along with assists (3.2). AJ Dancler averages 5.6 rebounds to lead the team, claiming three double-doubles this season. Dancler was named Sun Belt Player of the Week in December, posting a double-double in the victory over Saint Joseph's.
LEADING THE TEAM –
Four Warhawks average over 10 points per game, with Krystian Lewis leading the pack with 16.4 ppg. He tallied three-straight 20+-point games from January 3 through 10, most recently collecting 21 points vs. Georgia Southern. He also leads the team in assists (3.0) and steals (1.6). MJ Russell (15.8), Lavell Brodnex (13.3) and Renars Sondors (11.0) also post double-digit scoring averages this season.
FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE –
The Warhawks have attempted double-digit free throws in 20 of their 22 contests, attempting a whopping 41 free throws against Arkansas Baptist on December 9, making 31. The 41 attempted free throws is the second-most attempted by a Sun Belt team this season. Against the Ragin' Cajuns on December 20, ULM hit 26 free throws. Krystian Lewis led the charge, hitting 15 of his 18 free throws. Lewis sits at second in the Sun Belt and is ranked 32nd nationally with 117 free throws made.
