ULM Volleyball Falls to Ragin' Cajuns Friday Night

The Warhawk offense was led by first-year Grace Troxell, who tallied 11 kills on the night.

MONROE, La. — The ULM volleyball team (9-18, 3-10 SBC) fell 3-0 to UL-Lafayette (12-13, 8-5 SBC) on Friday evening. The Warhawk offense was led by first-year Grace Troxell, who tallied 11 kills on the night. Setter Bre Perrin had 18 assists and 12 digs, while Aniya Hall reached near double-double numbers, making nine kills and 11 digs.

UL-Lafayette built a quick lead to open the match, going up by as much as eight points at the media timeout. The Ragin' Cajuns kept the momentum on their side, making the score 19-8, until the Warhawks got the ball back to place Hall at the service line. The Warhawks scored six straight points on Hall's serve to close the gap to 19-14. UL-Lafayette's lead was too great to overcome, and it took the first set 25-17.

The second set began with an ace by Briana Raney. ULM held on to that lead, scoring three consecutive points to go up 10-5 and force a Ragin' Cajuns timeout. Back-to-back solo blocks by Aniya Hall and Abby Cunningham gave the Warhawks a six-point lead going into the break. ULM led by seven points after an ace from Tatum Clay, but a 5-1 UL-Lafayette run closed the gap to just two points. Grace Troxell made consecutive kills to fend off the Ragin' Cajun comeback attempt, but UL-Lafayette finished the set on a 4-0 run, leading for the first time, and taking the set on back-to-back ULM errors.

After only two ties and one lead change in the whole match, the third set was tightly contested, with 10 ties and three lead changes. The Warhawks opened the set with three straight, but a 5-1 run gave UL-Lafayette its first lead of the set. The two teams traded points all the way through the media timeout, when the Ragin' Cajuns had a one-point advantage. UL-Lafayette began to run away with the set, scoring five of the next six points. The Ragin' Cajuns sealed the match on kills from Sarah Schnell and Grace Sweeney.

The Warhawks will face the Ragin' Cajuns once again tomorrow, Saturday, November 7 for the home season finale in b1Bank Fant Coliseum. ULM will honor its six seniors before the 1 p.m. first serve.
