NATCHITOCHES, La. – Ten runs allowed in the seventh and eighth innings sunk ULM baseball in a 10-13 loss to Northwestern State Tuesday night.

The Warhawks (2-3) struck first in the opening frame with a throwing error by the Demons (4-0), allowing
Micah Dean to score.
Kade Dupont followed that up with his first RBI of the game to put ULM up 2-0. NSU put runners at the corners with two outs, but couldn't bring any of them home thanks to a flyout to center field.

The Demons got the first two runners on in the bottom of the second, but three straight strikeouts by
Seaver Sheets ended the threat and kept the Warhawk lead at two. The away team added on to the lead at the top of the third with a three-spot. Dupont and
Zach White produced RBI singles, and J
ackson Landry hit a sacrifice fly to give ULM a 5-0 lead. Northwestern State responded in the bottom half with a fielder's choice, allowing a run to score, putting the home team on the scoreboard.

NSU again cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of RBI singles brought home two runs and making it a two-run game. After a scoreless fifth with no hits for either team,
Davis Mauzy walked before Dean blasted a homer into left field to give ULM a 7-3 lead.
Bryce Blaser produced a triple to get into scoring position before
Jake Haggard lined a single to make the gap five after six.

The Warhawks loaded the bases in the top frame of the seventh but could not bring anyone home as the lead remained 8-3. In the bottom half, the Demons loaded the bases before a
Colin Rains double cleared the bases and made it 8-6. The bases were loaded again before an infield single cut the Warhawk lead down to one run. A strikeout and groundout ended the inning, but the damage had been done.

ULM added insurance runs in the top of the eighth with a
Marcus Aranda sac fly and a
Zach White single to push the lead to three. NSU broke through in the bottom of the inning with six straight hits and eight batters in a row reaching base to produce a total of six runs to take the lead. A Haggard double was all for the Warhawks at the top of the ninth to secure the loss.

Dupont, Dean and White all finished with multiple RBI and two or more hits in the game, while Blaser and Haggard also ended with multiple knocks. Dean also collected his second home run of the season.

The Warhawks stay on the road for the Maestri Classic this weekend, with their first matchup being against Northern Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m.
