STATESBORO, Ga.– The ULM women's basketball team (13-14, 6-10 Sun Belt) fought hard Saturday against one of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference but ultimately fell 67-54 vs. Georgia Southern (21-6, 14-2 Sun Belt). The Warhawks were held to 35 percent shooting for the game which included only two made shots on 17 attempts in the fourth quarter.
Â
J'Mani Ingram paced ULM in scoring with 15 points while also grabbing seven rebounds.
Marcavia Shavers recorded her ninth double-double of the season by scoring 11 points and securing a team high 15 rebounds.
Marissa Gasaway chipped in with a season high nine points with four rebounds.
Â
Shavers would open the game with back-to-back baskets inside before a three-pointer by Gasaway eventually gave the Warhawks a five-point lead. Georgia Southern would respond with a pair of baskets of their own but a layup inside by
Keshunti Nichols gave ULM a four-point lead after one quarter of play.Â
Â
After a jumper by Nichols to open the second quarter, Georgia Southern would respond with a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the game. It would be a short-lived one as
Nakiyah Mays-Prince stepped up to hit all three of her free throws after she was fouled on a three-point attempt. The Eagles would end up taking the lead after a pair of baskets but the Warhawks would respond with a 6-0 run to take it back. ULM would hold onto a five-point lead going into halftime after
Asjah Inniss managed to knock down an acrobatic shot on the baseline as time expired.
Â
The Warhawks maintained control to start the third quarter and a jumper by Mays-Prince gave ULM their highest lead of the game at seven. Georgia Southern would take advantage of back-to-back turnovers by the visitors to initiate what would be a 10-0 run to take the lead. Georgia Southern would finish the quarter on an 11-2 run to push the lead to double figures for the first time in the game for either side.
Â
The Warhawks would do most of their scoring within the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as multiple trips to the free-throw line cut the deficit to just five points. From there, Georgia Southern would connect on two three-pointers to close the game out on an 11-3 run as ULM missed 14 of their final 15 shots.
Â
ULM will close out the regular season at home next week first against Texas State on Wednesday (Feb. 25). Tipoff from Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
