ULM Softball Falls to Bobcats in Series-Deciding Game

Texas State started hot and scored in four of the five innings to remain ahead.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – 13 hits scored 10 runs for the hosts Texas State (18-9, 2-1 Sun Belt), as the Bobcats claimed a 10-2, five-inning victory over the ULM Warhawks (17-14, 1-2 Sun Belt) on Sunday (March 15).

Two outs were picked up in the top of the first inning, as the Warhawks looked to make something happen on the offense, Morgan Brown reaching on an error. But a third out left her on base, sending the game to the bottom. A lead-off double by Keely Williams kept momentum in the Bobcat camp, a single following, with a sacrifice fly scoring the first run of the game.

Another three-up, three-down inning in the second allowed for the hot bats to continue for Texas State. A single and a walk brought up Williams again, who doubled to score another run, a second double by Kate Bubela scoring another. While more runs could have scored, a runner leaving early concluded the inning with the Bobcats ahead, 3-0.

ULM got on the board in the third, a lead-off single by Olivia Faggard setting up three consecutive singles. Morgan Brown's RBI single would score the first run for the Warhawks, cutting the lead to two. But after the first batter in the bottom reached on an error, another double would land two runners in scoring position. Two RBI singles would score the fourth and fifth runs for Texas State.

The Warhawks got two on base in the fourth, but were unable to capitalize. While another lead-off double was hit in the bottom, third baseman Carson Jansky caught the runner at third to shift momentum. ULM handed the Bobcats their first scoreless inning of the contest, claiming three outs before they plated anyone.

With two outs on the board, Hollie Thomas did her part in chipping at the deficit, hitting a solo home run in the fifth, her fifth of the season and her career. With the score settled at 5-2, Texas State responded in the bottom of the inning to conclude the game. A solo home run added to the tally first, as two walks and a single loaded the bases. A walk scored another run, as an error scored two more. As the bases remained loaded, another walk then made the final tally 10, the deficit closing the game at five innings.

Six different Warhawks logged hits on the day, Morgan Brown and Hollie Thomas each claiming RBIs. Four putouts go to Brooklin Lippert, who led the team on the defense. Ashanti McDade (1.2 IP) was credited with the loss, striking out a batter and allowing six hits. Skylar Waggoner (2.2 IP) and Maddie Nichols (0.1 IP) also saw time in the circle.

The Warhawks will stay on the road to face an SEC opponent in Alabama on Tuesday (March 17). First pitch in Tuscaloosa is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
