ULM entered the bottom of the first inning with a scoreless game thanks to an eight-pitch inning by
Haydan Toal. The Demons shut the home team down in a similar fashion, only needing seven pitches to get through one.
Â
NSU put a runner on second with a walk and a wild pitch advancing the runner, but two straight strikeouts ended the threat and kept the game scoreless. The Warhawks once again went three-up, three-down, preserving the shutout heading into the third.
Â
The Demons started the top of the third inning with a solo home run into left field, making the score 1-0 in favor of the away team. Three infield singles loaded the bases before a sac-fly and single scored two more runs for the away team, resulting in a three-run lead for NSU.
Â
Jackson Landry produced the first base hit of the game with a single lined up the middle, but a double play following ended the production at the bottom of the third. Northwestern State added another run with a sacrifice fly in the next frame, extending its lead to 4-0.
Â
At the bottom of the sixth,
Kade Dupont led off the frame with a double before a Landry walk put two runners on. Wiethorn bunted to move the runners over, and the Warhawks had two runners in scoring position with one out, but a pop out and a strikeout ended the threat, keeping the home team scoreless after six.
Â
Thomas Marasala III belted a home run to start the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 5-0. ULM was held to no runs the rest of the way to result in the five-run loss, the first shutout of the season.
