MONROE, La. – Another eight scoreless innings after scoring in the first resulted in a 4-1 loss for ULM baseball (21-19, 9-9 Sun Belt) against Arkansas State (24-15, 9-9 Sun Belt) Sunday afternoon.

Although he earned the loss,
JC Dermody ended the day with a line of six innings pitched, allowing five hits and striking out five batters.
Justin Robinson also completed three innings of work with three strikeouts.

The Red Wolves struck first at the top of the first with a solo shot by Derek Martinez, giving the away team an early 1-0 lead. A
Micah Dean single and
Jake Haggard walk with two outs put runners at first and second.
Marcus Aranda lined a ball up the middle, sending Dean home to tie the game at 1-1.

After Arkansas State went three-up, three-down in the top frame of the second,
Zach White lined a hit into right field to break his slump. Two straight outs resulted in a scoreless frame for the home team, keeping the game tied. After a walk and a single started the third inning, a bunt moved the runners to second and third. A sacrifice fly scored the runner from third, giving the Red Wolves a 2-1 lead.

After two outs were recorded at the top of the fourth, two straight doubles in left field scored a third run for the away team, resulting in a two-run margin. Both teams went scoreless going into the seventh, with the action being a double by the Red Wolves and a walk and single by ULM.

Robinson entered the game and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh.
Garrett Wiethorn got on base to lead off the bottom half. After two outs,
Bryce Blaser singled to get the runner in scoring position, but a fielder's choice ended the threat. Martinez followed that up with his second home run of the game, extending the Red Wolves' lead to three.

 ULM was held to just one hit the rest of the way and ended the game with a 4-1 loss. The loss marks the third consecutive Sun Belt series dropped by the Warhawks.
