ULM Warhawks

MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks (27-28, 12-18 Sun Belt) dropped the rubber match against Troy (29-27, 17-13 Sun Belt) in the fight for the final series of the regular season. Five home runs from the Trojans kept them ahead, scoring six runs in one inning and five in the next. The Warhawks landed on the board in the second, but could not mount the comeback.
 
While Holden Hess was able to snag a strikeout early, a runner got into scoring position early as Blake Cavill doubled for Troy's first score. A double play then had ULM escaping the inning down just one run. Davis Mauzy led off with a double and while two more runners loaded the bases, three outs had Troy out of the jam. 
 
Back-to-back singles led off the second, a walk loading the bases as another walk plated another runner. With two outs down, Cavill hit a grand slam to add to the Trojan tally, Jimmy Janicki hitting a homer right after to secure the six-spot and the 7-0 lead. A walk to lead off the bottom of the second gave way to another, as Mauzy doubled to score ULM's first run of the contest. With one out on the board, a wild pitch had Jake Griffith crossing home, cutting the deficit to five through two innings.
 
Drew Nelson led off the third with another homer for Troy, adding an eighth run to the board. Multiple walks loaded the bases, prompting Cavill to hit his second grand slam of the game with two outs. Justin Robinson struck out the final batter to get out of the inning. Kade Dupont led off with a single, two walks loading the bases. Zach White hit a sacrifice fly for ULM's third run as the score held 12-3 through three. 
 
After another leadoff single, three consecutive groundouts kept the Trojans at bay for the first time in the game. Troy returned the favor on the defense, as ULM went 1-2-3. Despite a runner reaching third base, three outs–capped off by a strikeout from Adam Tubbs–kept the Trojans scoreless in the fifth. Despite Dupont's single, the Warhawks were also held without a score in the fifth. Two strikeouts for Tubbs gave way to a third scoreless inning for Troy in the top of the sixth. Mauzy and Bryce Blaser both singled to reach base as a walk got the bags juiced with two outs. But a flyout kept the score 12-3 through six.
 
Jabe Boroff led off with a home run for the Trojans, getting ahead 10 runs in the top of the seventh. Holding the rest of Troy steady to get out with just the one run scored, ULM headed for the bottom. Two strikeouts ended the final frame, closing the 2026 season for the Warhawks. 

Davis Mauzy (3-for-4) led the team with three hits, two doubles claiming an RBI as well. Kade Dupont also saw a multi-hit game with two, his reached-base streak breaking 20 games. Holden Hess was credited wih the loss, seeing one inning at the start of the contest and striking out a batter. Justin Robinson (1.1 IP) and Adam Tubbs (4.0 IP) combined for seven strikeouts on the back half of the contest.
