MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks (3-3-1) kept the home unbeaten streak alive as the team defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (1-5) on Thursday evening (Sept. 3). With seven shots on goal to SFA's one, the Warhawks dominated offensively to pick up the clean sheet. The Warhawks defeat the Lumberjacks for the first time at home since 2001, the first time since 2004.
Amy Sharkey was able to push the offense early, earning a shot on target in the second minute to get things started. As the Warhawks continued to press, a Lumberjack corner kick set up another shot attempt, this time from
Stacey Qosja, while holding SFA without a shot in the early minutes.
After a hydration break maintaining the scoreless tally,
Bernadett Stefan passed the ball to
Jenni Huttunen in the 18
th minute, who launched the ball to the back of the net for the opening score of the match. It was Stefan's second assist of the season and Huttunen's first as a Warhawk, though her 21
st of her career. In the 31
st minute, just three minutes later,
Ines de Lope Casanova scored her second career goal and first in 2026 to make it a quick 2-0 score. The goal was assisted by first year
Charli Harris, the second of her career.
The Warhawks continued to drive possession, leading 10 shots to SFA's one after the first half, ahead 2-0 over the Lumberjacks.
An early shot on target by
Luena Ferreira kept the Warhawks in power as the second half began, even as an open goal allowed for a missed shot from SFA. ULM's defense continued to keep the Lumberjacks at bay as time ran on, preventing a shot on target through 70 minutes of play.
Fouls got in the way of ULM's strong possession, allowing for the Lumberjacks to make attempts with free kicks. But the Warhawks continued to prevent a score. In the 85
th minute, a foul against ULM allowed for a penalty kick attempt from the Lumberjacks. But the shot went high and the Warhawks kept the slate clean for the first time all season in the 2-0 victory.
Jenni Huttunen led the team with three shots on target to go with her goal,
Ines de Lope Casanova following with two shots on target and a goal.
Charli Harris and
Bernadett Stefan each notched an assist for a point as well. Keeper
Jen Handy recorded her first shutout victory of the season and 13
th of her career.
ULM will remain at Brown Stadium over the weekend, facing the UAB Blazers on Sunday (Sept. 6). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
