Brady Cox

Brady Cox joined the ULM baseball coaching staff before the 2026 season as the team's pitching coach, announced by Ford Pemberton on June 24, 2025.

Cox arrives in Monroe after serving as the pitching coach at Little Rock for three seasons, culminating in the Trojans' remarkable postseason run in the 2025 Baton Rouge Regional Final.

"I am very excited to add Brady Cox as our pitching coach," said Pemberton. "Brady has recruited and developed at a very high level, has led pitching staffs to championships and coached well in the NCAA postseason. He was very well respected as a player at both the Division I and professional level. This is exactly the type of person and coach I want around our players, and I am ready to see Brady and our pitchers establish the identity we want on the mound."

During his three seasons overseeing the pitching staff at Little Rock, Cox developed two pitchers voted Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year – Jackson Wells (2023) and Jacob Weatherley (2024).

"I couldn't be more excited and am thankful to join the staff at ULM," said Cox. "I played and began my coaching career in the Sun Belt Conference, so it is awesome to be back in the strong league. I believe in Coach Pemberton's vision and am ready to work with the players and the great people on campus and in the Monroe community."

Cox was on the coaching staff that helped guide the Trojans to a magical 2025 season. After upsetting nationally ranked Ole Miss in April, Little Rock won five straight games at the OVC Tournament and captured the program's first tournament title and second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Little Rock reached the Baton Rouge Regional Final after wins versus Rhode Island and Dallas Baptist before handing the eventual national champion LSU its only loss of the postseason. Wells led the OVC and ranked inside the national top 50 with 97 strikeouts and the Trojans' pitching staff fired the OVC's third-highest strikeouts per nine innings rate (8.0).

In 2024, Cox mentored an OVC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season after Weatherley led the league in ERA (2.85), saves (9) and strikeouts per nine innings (11.25). Weatherley made 23 appearances out of the bullpen and ranked third in the OVC opponent batting average (.241) and fired 12 scoreless appearances. The Trojans won 32 games, the highest in school history, and claimed the OVC Regular Season title.

In addition to being named the 2023 OVC Pitcher of the Year, Wells also claimed All-America recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), becoming the sixth player in school history to be named an All-American. Wells' earned run average of 1.65 during his 2023 season was the lowest out of any pitcher in the nation and was the first Little Rock pitcher to be named a statistical champion. He also led the OVC in several statistical categories including complete games (2), hits allowed per nine innings (7.06) and walks/hits per innings pitched [WHIP] (1.13) while also ranking second in games started (15) and wins (7). The Trojans also reached the 30-win mark for the first time since 2003.

Before his time at Little Rock, Cox was the pitching coach at his alma mater, UT Arlington, from 2021-22. During the 2021 season, Cox helped lead the Mavericks to a second-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference West Division before reaching the conference tournament semifinals. Cox's pitching staff struck out 485 batters, a program record, while only walking 188, the fewest in the league. He coached All-Sun Belt First Team pitcher Carlos Tavera, who tallied 117 strikeouts. Tavera was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and is currently playing for the Norfolk Tides, the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate.

Prior to his coaching career, Cox was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 36th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and spent three seasons in the Royals' organization. He recorded 141 at-bats, finishing with three home runs and 18 RBI with an on-base percentage of .347 in his minor league career for the Arizona League Royals and Idaho Falls Chukars. Cox made the transition to the mound during his final season with the Chukars and appeared in 18 games, finishing with a 3.72 ERA and a 2.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Cox was a standout catcher at UTA from 2014-17 and led the Mavericks in batting average (.365), hits (81) and on-base percentage (.427) his junior season. In the same season, he was named a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top catcher, and was also a First Team All-Sun Belt selection.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Cox received his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from UTA in 2017. He is married to Madison and the couple has a daughter, Callie.
