Cody Wells

No stranger to ULM fans, Cody Wells joined the ULM football coaching staff as an offensive assistant coach in January 2025.

Wells most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., and joined the football staff in 2022 as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During his time at Evangel, the Valor won 26 games in three seasons, including five victories over NAIA Top 25 teams. The Valor won the 2023 KCAC Football Championship and was ranked No. 9 in the country at the conclusion of the regular season, earning an appearance in the NAIA Football Playoffs. While at Evangel, Wells coached AFCA/NAIA All-American wide receiver Dillon Hester and offensive lineman CJ Anoa'i. In his three seasons in Springfield, the Valor offense he oversaw averaged over 300 yards of total offense in each season, including an impressive average of 401.5 yards per game during the 2023 season.
 
Before Evangel, Wells spent six seasons at Jacksonville State where he coached the wide receivers and quarterbacks. Wells mentored a trio of quarterbacks who earned First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference from 2016-18 at JSU, including 2018 All-American quarterback Zerrick Cooper.
 
His first stint as an assistant coach at ULM was in 2015 when he served as the quarterbacks coach and coached Garrett Smith to throw for over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns during that season. Wells was a graduate assistant at Jacksonville State in 2014, when the Gamecocks went a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
 
Wells began his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant at ULM during the 2013 season and assisted with quarterback Kolton Browning, who threw for 2,179 yards and 21 touchdowns his final season as a Warhawk.
 
A dual sport football and golf athlete at ULM, Wells competed on the football team as a quarterback from 2008-12 and played on the Warhawks' golf team in the spring of 2013. In his senior season on the gridiron, Wells appeared in all 13 games and made one start, finishing the season 66 of 103 for 700 yards and four passing touchdowns, helping the Warhawks earn their first bowl appearance in program history. Wells was named to the Sun Belt Conference's Academic Honor Roll each season and was the recipient of the ULM President's Award and the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
On the links, Wells competed in five events in 2013 and shot a career-low 74 in the final round of the ULM/Wallace Jones Invitational. He averaged 80.33 strokes in 15 rounds played.
 
Wells married the former Allie McComas of Monroe in 2017. The couple has two children, Anna Collins and Cannon.
