Mikayla Etienne joins the staff after spending a season as an assistant coach at Pearl River Community College under Scotty Fletcher. In the 2024-25 season, Etienne helped guide the Wildcats to a 25-3 record–the fewest losses recorded in program history–and a MACCC regular season championship.Â

Prior to her coaching career, Etienne played basketball at Panola Junior College, Southwest Mississippi Community College, Mississippi Valley State and Nicholls. In her collegiate debut at Panola JC, she averaged 6.6 points, three rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in the 2018-19 season. From 2019-21, Etienne spent two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College. After missing the 2019-20 season due to injury, Etienne earned NJCAA Division I All-American Honorable Mention following the 2020-21 season. Etienne averaged 14.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and three assists in 2020-21 in a season that also saw her named All-Region 23 and First Team All-MACCC.

The Monroe, La. native then spent two seasons at Mississippi Valley State where she started 20 games for the Devilettes during the 2021-22 season, averaging 11.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. She was an in-game commentator for the Mississippi Valley men's and women's basketball broadcasts during the 2022-23 season. Etienne concluded her playing career at Nicholls, averaging 8.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 season, earning her recognition as a finalist for Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year.

The hiring of Etienne acts as a homecoming for the assistant coach, who was a previous standout at Ouachita Parish High School. She was named First Team All-State, All-Parish, All-District and 5A All-State Honorable Mention as a senior.

Etienne earned an associate’s degree in physical education from Southwest Mississippi CC and a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Mississippi Valley State.
