NEW ORLEANS, La.?ULM had a record 107
student-athletes honored by the Sun Belt Conference on the Commissioner's List
and Academic Honor Roll, announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
ULM had 42 student-athletes land on the
Commissioner's List, which honors all student-athletes recording a 3.5 grade
point average or better during the 2007-08 academic year. The Warhawks also had
65 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, which is awarded to those
maintaining a 3.0-3.49 GPA.
The 107 ULM
student-athletes honored by the Sun Belt breaks the record of 92 set last
year. The conference also set a record
with total of 1,503 athletes honored topping the previous high of 1,429 set
during the 2006-07 school year.
The women's track and field team led the way with eight athletes on the
Commissioner's List, while the soccer team had six players honored on the
Commissioner's List and 10 on the Academic Honor Roll.
The Warhawk football team had four players on Commissioner's List,
including ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection James Truxillo, and
14 on the Academic Honor Roll. Another
highlight was the softball team with 12 student-athletes on the Academic Honor
Roll and two on the Commissioner's List. The women's golf team had all
four of its eligible student-athletes named to either the Commissioner's List
or Academic Honor Roll.
The Sun Belt Conference is committed to academic excellence and proof
comes in the fact that 12 member schools, including ULM, are currently graduating its
student-athletes at a rate higher than their school's student body.
