MONROE, La.?Darren Sutton made amends for two early errors with a two-run game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth inning leading the Maroon Team to an 11-10 victory over the Gold Team in Game Two of the best-of-five “Blood Series” Series.

The Gold Team took a 10-4 lead with a six-run fourth inning, but the Maroon squad scored four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to complete the comeback and take a 2-0 series lead.

Matt Collins led off the Maroon sixth inning with a double on a ball that was misjudged. Evan Saucier then beat out an infield single and the pair moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Kelvin York setting up Sutton's single.

Ben Soignier moved from shortstop to the mound in the top of the sixth inning for the Maroon Team and retired six of the eight batters he faced, four by way of the strikeout. He also scored two runs and was 1-for-3 from the dish, in addition to picking up the win.

Jordy Poche took the loss for the Gold Team allowing two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings of work. The freshman, who started the game at second base, went 2-for-3 from the plate with four RBIs.

Quin Myer sent a bases clearing double down the left field line capping off the six run fourth inning for the Gold Team giving them a 10-4 lead. Petey Thigpen scored the first run of the inning after the throw from third hit him in the back. One batter later, Josh Chappel doubled to right scoring both Louie Lancaster and Craig Scelfo. Lancaster finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

The Gold Team struck in the top of the first inning with a pair of unearned runs. Lancaster singled back up the middle and moved to second as Dexter Fontenot reached on a fielding error. Jon Prevost loaded the bases with a single to right center. Following a strikeout, Poche delivered a two-run single to right.

The Maroon Team wasted no time getting back the runs and more in their half of the opening frame. Matt Laird led off the game with a walk and moved to third on a double down the right field line by Soignier.

Kyle Suire grounded out sharply to second, but Laird scored on the play and Soignier moved over to third. Ryan McMillan provided the third extra-base hit of the inning with a triple to right center scoring both runners.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Gold squad tied the game with Poche's second two-run single of the game. Lancaster doubled to right center to lead off the inning and Prevost reached on another Maroon fielding error. Both moved into scoring position on a passed ball.

Nick Poe entered in relief for the second straight for the Gold Team and pitched out of a bases loaded jam striking out Saucier to end the third inning.

The Maroon Team got four runs back in the bottom of the fourth with York scoring on a wild pitch, Soignier and Laird scoring on a throwing error by Poe and Collins driving home A.J. Siggers with a single to left. Siggers finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

They added another run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Siggers to right field scoring Laird, who reached on a single through the left side of the infield.

The Maroon Team will try and wrap up the series tomorrow night. First pitch at Warhawk Field is scheduled for 6:00 pm. The losing team in the series will donate blood to the Lifeshare Blood Center.
