La.?Regena Jackson scored a career-high 22
points leading ULM to an 84-62 victory at Northwestern State Saturday afternoon in Prather
Coliseum.
Almost half of Jackson's
total came during a 24-2 run by the Warhawks (5-2) early in the second half as
she scored 10 of ULM's
points in the spurt.
Shannon Davis tied her
season-high with 14 points and just missed out on her second consecutive
double-double pulling down nine rebounds. Jessie Carrier rounded out the double-figure
scoring for the Warhawks with 11 points.
Northwestern State
(4-5) scored the first four points of the second half tying the game at 36-36,
but the Warhawks rolled off 16 unanswered, including back-to-back long balls
from Carrier and Jackson.
A layup by Shannon Davis gave ULM
a 22-point lead (60-38) with just over 12 minutes remaining in the contest, but
Brooke Shepherd temporarily stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer. The Warhawks led by as many as 26 in the
second half.
Lloyd scored eight of the
Warhawks first 13 points in the game connecting on her first three attempts
from the floor and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
Renotta Edwards led the Lady
Demons with 13 points, while Shepherd added 12.
Edwards scored 11 of Northwestern
State's first 16 points
of the game, but only scored two points over the remainder of the contest.
The Warhawks shot lights out from
beyond the arc connecting on 8-of-16, led by Jackson's 3-of-3 shooting. ULM
also stayed true to form on the defensive end forcing the Lady Demons into 25
turnovers on the game; the Warhawks entered the contest forcing over 19
turnovers per game.
Lottie Moore and Cassie Courtney
added eight points each for ULM. Ashley Wallis posted a career-high eight
boards, while LaJeanna Howard added eight as ULM outrebounded
Northwestern State 45-39, including 17-7 on the offensive glass.
The Warhawks turned their
advantage on the offensive boards into a 26-4 margin on second chance
points. ULM
also dominated the points off turnovers outscoring Northwestern State
28-8.
Neither team could gain control
of momentum for the majority of the first half.
Dyamond Hogg hit the first of two free throws with 3:38 remaining in the half putting the Warhawks up 30-22; the scoring capped an 8-2 run breaking the sixth tie of the game.
Northwestern State
rolled off five straight points taking less than a minute of the clock closing
the gap to 30-28 with two minutes to play, but Howard netted her first points of the game draining a three from the
right wing pushing ULM
back up five.
Jackson
added another long-ranger dagger for the Warhawks, but Ashli Barnum hit a
jumper at the buzzer closing the ULM
lead to 36-32 at the break.
The Warhawks continue their four
game road trip with a stop at Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night. Tipoff in the 53rd installment of
the series is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly
Center. ULM
defeated the Lady Techsters 58-54 last season. The victory was the first for the Warhawks over La. Tech since 1992; however, the schools only played five times during that stretch.
