ULM Blows Past Lamar 12-3 Tuesday Night in Non-Conference Baseball Action

MONROE, La.?ULM broke open a 2-2 game with 10 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings en route to a 12-3 victory over Lamar in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.

Matt Collins started the onslaught with a two-run home run to right field in the fourth and Ben Soignier continued his torrid pace with an RBI single to left; Soignier finished the game 5-for-6 from the plate and is 19-for-29 (.655) over the last six games.

After Devin Pourciau retired the Cardinals (9-5) in the top of the fifth, ULM's (8-4, 2-1 Sun Belt) first three batters reached base in its half of the inning, including a double by Ryan McMillan scoring A.J. Siggers.

Nick Wade ended a 20-game homerless streak with a three-run shot down the left field line extending the Warhawk lead to 9-2. Wade finished the game 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs.

Soignier scored his 19th run of the season on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Pourciau (1-0) was brilliant in relief of starter Scott Stephen going 5.1 innings striking out a career-high seven batters without allowing a run for his first career victory.

Soignier struck again in the sixth with a single to right scoring Darren Sutton, who entered the game as a pinch hitter and picked up his first career hit. Louie Lancaster also got into the mix in the sixth with run scoring single.

Lamar left 13 runners on base including leaving the bases loaded in both the first and second innings.

Kyle Suire opened the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first; the senior second baseman finished the game 3-for-5. Dexter Fontenot and McMillan each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Matison Smith (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Lamar allowing five runs ? two earned ? in 3.0 innings of work yielding six hits.

The teams complete the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
