NEW ORLEANS, La.?For
the second straight game ULM lit up New Orleans pitching pushing
19 runs across the plate on 18 hits downing the Privateers 19-13 Saturday
afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action to win their fifth straight game.
ULM (11-4, 4-1 Sun Belt) has scored 30
runs and pounded out 35 hits through the first two games of the series and have the best road record in the nation opening
the season a perfect 6-0 away from Warhawk Field.
ULM continued to pound the ball out of
the park hitting five home runs on Saturday giving them 24 on the season
through 15 games.
The Warhawks jumped out to a 12-4 lead with an eight-spot in
the top of the second and a pair of runs in both the first and third
innings.
ULM scored a run in eight-of-nine innings on
the game.
Kyle Suire continues to terrorize opposing pitching hitting
a pair of home runs going 4-for-5 from the plate with six RBIs and five runs
scored. The senior second baseman now
has six home runs and 21 RBIs on the season.
It is the second straight game that a ULM
player has hit two home runs after Matt Collins hit a grand slam and a solo
shot in the series opener against New
Orleans yesterday.
All nine offensive starters for the Warhawks recorded at hit
and scored a run.
Nick Wade set the tone for the top of the second leading off
the inning with a home run to left.
Suire picked up RBIs two and three of the game with a double to left
center scoring Jon Prevost and Ben Soignier.
New Orleans (8-6, 1-3) pulled within three, 14-11, after
four runs in the fifth inning, but ULM responded with an RBI single by Wade in
the seventh and Suire's second home run ? a two-run blast ? in the eighth.
Wade finished the game with a pair of hits and three RBIs -- he now has eight RBIs and seven hits over the last four games.
Seven ULM
players recorded multiple hits and four had multiple RBIs.
Matt Laird got in the mix with a two-run homer down the
right field line in the top of the ninth.
D.J. Fortenberry (2-0) picked up his second win of the season
out of the bullpen tossing 2 2/3 innings allowing a pair of runs on four
hits. Soignier moved over from his
normal role as the shortstop to close out the final two innings.
Stephen Whalen (1-2) lasted just 1 1/3 innings on the mound
for the Privateers allowing seven runs on seven hits.
The clubs wrap up the three-game series Sunday afternoon at
1:00 p.m.
