Southern Mississippi Rallies for 7-5 Victory Over ULM Wednesday Night

MONROE, La.?Southern Mississippi rallied from a four-run deficit to take a 7-5 victory over ULM Wednesday night at Warhawk Field despite begin out-hit by the Warhawks 11-7.

The Golden Eagles (12-6) pushed seven runs across the plate in the third, fifth and sixth innings after ULM (12-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings.

The Southern Mississippi bullpen combined for six scoreless innings with Seth Hester (1-0) earning the win and Tyler Conn recording his fifth save.

Corey Stevens broke a 5-5 tie with a single back up the middle in the top of the sixth inning scoring Bo Davis and Josh Fields. Davis finished the game 2-for-3 and scored three times.

A.J. Siggers put the Warhawks on the board in the first inning with a single through the right side of the infield scoring Kyle Suire. ULM has scored in the first inning in 11-of-18 games this season and tonight was just the third loss in those games.

Suire and Matt Collins led the Warhawks at the dish each going 3-for-4 with.  Suire scored twice while Collins stole a pair of bases.

Ben Soignier extended the lead to 2-0 with a single back up the middle in the second, Suire followed with an RBI single to center and Dexter Fontenot made it a 4-0 lead with a double to left extending his hit streak to eight games.

After Southern Miss pulled within 4-2 in the top of third, Collins singled down the line in left field scoring Suire pushing the Warhawk lead out to 5-2.

Kyle Maxie singled to center in the fifth pulling the Golden Eagles within one, 5-4, and Brian Dozier tied the game drawing a walk from ULM reliever Kyle Smith with the bases loaded.

Devin Pourciau (1-1) took the loss for the Warhawks allowing a pair of runs in 2/3 of an inning walking two of the five batters he faced. ULM pitchers walked eight batters and also hit three Golden Eagles; five of those 11 runners came around to score.

The Warhawks will put their nation's best 7-0 road record on the line this weekend at Arkansas State (11-8, 4-2) in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
