rallied from a 6-3 deficit over the final three innings taking the series finale
from ULM 9-7
Sunday afternoon at Warhawk Field.
Bobby
Verbick gave the Bearkats (4-3) the lead with a three-run home run in the
seventh inning. Sam Houston
State tacked on a pair of
insurance runs in the eight and ninth innings.
Matt
Shelton (1-0) tossed the final 4.2 innings allowing just one run and three hits
picking up the win for the Bearkats.
The
Warhawks (5-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings with a
two-run single by A.J. Siggers in the opening frame and a solo homer by Matt
Collins in the second.
Sam Houston
State got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Braeden Riely in the third.
Both teams
put two runs on the board in their portion of the fourth inning. ULM
got RBIs from Matt Collins and Nick Wade, while the Bearkats' runs came courtesy
of a two-run home run by Daniel Nottebart.
Ryan
McMillan extended the ULM
lead out to 6-3 in the fifth with a single scoring Ben Soignier. Soignier finished the game 4-for-5 with a
pair of runs scored; he has recorded a hit in seven of his last 10 at-bats.
Drew Graham
started on the mound for the Warhawks going 6 1/3 innings before handing the
ball over to Jared Jennings. Graham
allowed five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts. Jennings
(0-2) was saddled with the loss allowing a pair of runs in 2/3 of an inning.
The Warhawks open Sun Belt Conference play next weekend hosting Western Kentucky (4-1).
First pitch is schedule for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 4:00 p.m. Saturday and
1:00 p.m. Sunday.
