ULM Stays Unbeaten on Road with Dramatic 3-1 Victory at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark.--ULM kept its perfect road record intact scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning defeating Arkansas State 3-1 Friday night in Sun Belt Conference play.

Jon Prevost led off the top of the ninth drawing a walk off ASU starter Chase Ware setting the inning in motion.

Ben Soignier laid down a bunt to move Prevost into scoring position, but Ware sailed the throw into right field allowing Prevost to score all the way from first and Soignier to move to third.

Dexter Fontenot tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly to left pushing the Warhawk (13-5, 6-1 Sun Belt) lead to 3-1.

ULM improves to 8-0 away from home this season which is the best road record in the nation and is the longest current road win streak in the nation.

Jared Jennings (2-2) turned in his third quality start in four outings picking up the win tossing eight innings allowing just one run on six hits. Derek Ward closed out the game picking up his fourth save of the season.

Arkansas State (11-9, 4-3) had its chances with the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings but left all six runners stranded on base. ASU out-hit the Warhawks 8-2 on the game, but left 11 runners on bases compared to just two for ULM.

Ware (3-1) was the hard-luck loser for ASU allowing a three runs -- one earned -- in eight innings walking three, scattering two hits and striking out eight.

The only runs of the game until the ninth came on a pair of solo home runs.

Ryan McMillan took the first pitch he saw over the wall in left field in the top of the second giving ULM a 1-0 advantage.

Ryan Hudgins led off Arkansas State?s half of the fourth inning taking the first pitch he saw over the wall in left tying the game at 1-1. Hudgins finished the game 3-for-5, but struck out looking to end the game.

The teams continue the three-game series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
