Last-Second Jumper Lifts Troy to 66-65 Upset of ULM in First Round of Sun Belt Women?s Basketball Tournament

MONROE, La.?Kylie Morrisey hit a leaning jumper with four seconds remaining lifting Troy to a 66-65 upset victory over ULM in the opening round of the Sun Belt Women's Basketball Tournament Wednesday night in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Trojans entered the game as the 11th seed in the tournament while the host Warhawks were the sixth seed.

Shannon Davis gave the Warhawks (17-13) a 65-64 lead with 10 seconds left on a layup, but Morrisey caught a baseball pass and drove into the lane for the game winner.

LaJeanna Howard put up a desperation shot that fell short as time expired.

ULM erased an eight-point Troy (13-17) lead over the final six minutes of the game taking a 63-62 lead on a three pointer by Howard. Amy Lewis started the back-and-forth play over the final minutes of the game with a layup giving the Trojans a 64-63 advantage with two minutes remaining.

Morrisey led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor while Lewis added 19 and Zena Lawrence netted 12.

Shannon Lloyd scored a career-high 19 points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds to lead ULM. Regena Jackson scored 13 points off the bench and Jessie Carrier added 11 hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

After the Warhawks took a 48-47 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Troy went on a 13-4 run taking a 60-52 lead.

The Warhawks took the lead ? 41-39 ? for the first time since the 14:19 mark of the opening half with a pair of Lottie Moore free throws with 14:53 to play in the game.

The Trojans led by as many as nine points in the opening half using an 11-0 run turning a 7-6 deficit into a 16-7 lead with 11 minutes remaining. ULM fought back closing the gap to two, 22-20, with just under seven minutes to play.

A Lloyd jumper tied the game at 24-24, but Troy scored eight of the next 10 points taking a 32-26 lead with just over two minutes remaining until the break.

A three pointer by Jackson and a jumper by Lloyd made it a one-point game at the half, 32-31.

Troy advances to take on Middle Tennessee Saturday night in Mobile, Ala., in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
