MONROE, La.?Northwestern State
used a pair of big innings to slug past ULM
13-4 Tuesday night in non-conference action at Warhawk Field.
The Demons (24-19) scored four runs in both the third and
seventh innings behind the strength of three home runs while the Warhawks
(29-15) struggled to get runners home stranding 13 on base over the course of
the game.
Justin O'Neal put Northwestern
State up 5-0 in the third
inning with a three-run home run over the wall in left field.
ULM pulled within 5-2 with a pair of
runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Ryan McMillan drew a bases loaded walk and Matt Collins recorded an
infield single, but the Warhawks were unable to push any more runs across
leaving the bases full.
The teams traded runs in the sixth inning with Beau
Snodgrass hitting his first home run of the season for Northwestern
State and Dexter Fontenot singling
through the hole in the right side of the infield for ULM.
Anthony Jones and
Chase Lyles each drove home a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning and
Mike Jaworski brought home a run in the eighth stretching the Northwestern
State lead out to 11-3.
Ben Soignier blasted a double to the wall in center field scoring
Jon Prevost after he led off the ULM's
half of the eighth with a single to right.
The Demons tacked on another pair of runs in the top of the ninth.
Kyle Suire extended his hit streak out to 11 games while
Soignier, Fontenot, Collins and Nick Maragas recorded a pair of hits for the
Warhawks who were wearing special camouflage jerseys on Military Night sponsored
by Marsala Beverage and the National Guard.
Johnnie Santangelo (2-0) tossed the first five innings
allowing three runs on seven hits to pick up the win and JC Bredengerd earned
his first save tossing the final four innings allowing one run on one hit.
Danial McHenry (0-2) took the loss for the Warhawks allowing
five runs on six hits through three innings.
The teams complete the home-and-home series tomorrow night
in Natchitoches at Northwestern State's
Brown-Stround Field beginning at 6:30 p.m.
